Camp it Up! Coming Up |
|
Camp is a place where a girl can make new friends, explore the world around her and learn that "I can" is much more powerful than "I can't." It's a place where transformation happens. In an environment created just for her, a girl learns real life skills, develops self-esteem and gains a sense of independence and community. Camp gives girls the chance to let their curiosity run free and spark their imagination! Ready to send your girl?!
GSSWT offers a variety of flexible options to get her there:
-
Day Camp at Mira Sol (Waring) -- week-long day camp in the scenic Texas Hill Country; includes free transportation from San Antonio and Kerrville and before/after care at an additional $25/girl
- Day Camp at La Jita (Utopia) -- new for summer 2013, week-long day camps especially for girls in our western counties
- Camp Metro Day Camp: Mix it Up! (outlying areas) -- three-days-a-week day camps to be held at Girl Scout-partnering locations such as community centers and local parks
- Camp Metro Day Camp @ West Side Girl Scout Leadership Center -- week-long day camps with free transportation from Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center and before/after care at an additional $25/girl
- Teen Track, Camp Metro Day Camp @ West Side Girl Scout Leadership Center -- week-long day camps especially for teens; free transportation from Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center
- Camp La Jita Resident Camp -- one- and two-week sessions where girls reside in rustic cabins; new, Friday transportation to Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center at additional $20/girl

Cookies for Heroes
Girl Scout Troop 232 in the Whittier/Twain/Longfellow Service Unit created several beautiful baskets for Cookies for Heroes in honor of Memorial Day. Thanks, Troop 232!
Local Girl Scout recognized as an Everyday Young Hero
Youth Service America recognized Girl Scout Senior Krystal F. as an Everyday Young Hero for her commitment to promoting vision health and education in her community.
"Krystal's strong adoration for reading, coupled with not liking to wear her glasses all of the time, sparked her desire to help other children who may not have access to vision testing or insurance that helps identify and prevent eye diseases. With the goal of earning her Silver Award for the Girl Scouts, Krystal teamed up with the local Lions Club to help plan and implement a Spot Pedia-Vision Screening at the Discovery World Learning Center for adults and children. The free screenings for young children between the ages of six months and five years old provided eye exams and early treatment to help spot and treat eye issues. She assisted with the young patients, making them feel comfortable during their screening, as well as providing support to staff and parents. Through her countless work with the Lions Club preparing and running the Screenings, Krystal volunteered more than 500 hours in order to make this project a success. Krystal wants every young child to have the opportunity to enjoy reading as much as she does, and plans to coordinate additional screenings in the future. For her passion for encouraging and advocating for healthy eyes and early eye exams, we honor Krystal as an Everyday Young Hero." Congratulations, Krystal! Girl Scouts do great things!
