Mark your calendar for the Del Rio-Val Verde County Agency Fair & Silent Auction from 2-8 p.m. on Saturday, October 13 at Plaza del Sol (2205 Veterans Boulevard, Del Rio, 78840). Come by for fun activities and a great silent auction supporting 18 Del Rio-Val Verde County United Way agencies, including Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas!

2012 Fall Product (Nuts & Candy) Sale -- get 'em before they're gone! |

This year's fall program (nuts and candy) theme is Become the Difference. The fall product sale offers girls the opportunity to earn fast funds at the beginning of the 2012-2013 Girl Scout year.
The Volunteer Product Sales Team developed exciting updates for this year's program. New features include these new products:
- Peppermint Bark in a swirl tin for $10
- Chocolate Covered Pretzels in a snowman tin for $8
- Double Dipped Chocolate Covered Peanuts for $6
Additionally, the team is excited to announce an expanded rewards package, including cute incentives and the always useful Nut Bucks program credits. Order taking ends October 14!

Nominations due Tuesday, November 27 |

All teen Girl Scouts, ages 14-18, are encouraged to apply to serve as ex officio girl board members to GSSWT's Board of Directors. Applications are due Tuesday, November 27.
Each of the five regional areas will select two teen Girl Scouts to serve on the board -- an excellent opportunity for girls to become involved at the council level and experience the democratic process first hand. See the timeline and get the application here.

Facebook: Friend or Foe? |

Facebook is the largest social network site in the world and its growth seems unstoppable. It has many advantages, but online safety is always a concern. Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas will hold two classes specifically designed for teens ages 12+ and their parents.
We will have in-depth discussions on:
- The multiple benefits of using Facebook
- How parents can remain involved without being intrusive
- Appropriate content and online etiquette
- Profile and privacy settings

Money Manager Training |

Join Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 18 at the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center (811 N. Coker Loop, San Antonio, 78216) for Money Manager Training.
Learn the how-to of troop finances! Discover the money management process and requirements from bank account procedures to filing reports. Help guide girls with their financial goals and assist in establishing good money practice skills. Prerequisite: Must have Completed Girl Scouting 101 and Welcome Session

Girl Scout Krystal Farthing was an Honorable Mention winner in Justine, the "real-girl" focused national lifestyle magazine for teen and tween girls. The R.E.A.L. Girl Contest asked teens to describe how they are Remarkable, Energetic, Aspirational Leaders and was held in partnership with Girl Scouts of the USA.

Girl Scouts Update Recipe for Cookie Box
The Girl Scout cookie box is getting a major makeover - for the first time in more than a dozen years - to better tell the story of what girls learn from selling cookies. Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils all and the other cookie varieties will move from being a product to a messenger, seeking to explain what scouts do and to reconnect with some of the 59 million Girl Scout alumnae.
