Fillins, King, Fat Caps, Pieces. Learn about these graffiti terms and more during a special Carrie Blast Furnaces Urban Art Tour & Workshop focusing on
graffiti found at the site. Led by graphic and web designer Shane Pilster of 82 Concepts, the tour will provide a deeper look at the spray painted pictures found on abandoned industrial sites and city buildings. Following the tour, Pilster will conduct a workshop where participants will create a take-away piece.  A limited number of tickets are available.  Click here to sign up today!   Allow 2 hours. Friends of the Riverfront, Northside Leadership Conference, Donora Historical Society among recipients of Rivers of Steel C2P2 Mini-Grants via PA DCNR


   Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area will disperse almost $40,000 in mini-grants to nonprofit requestees from Greensburg, Mt. Pleasant, Donora and Pittsburgh. Projects planned include the refurbishment of a scale car, the locating of Henry Clay Frick coke mines, a Main Line Canal Photographic Essay & Exhibit, and the printing of 40,000 Three Rivers Heritage Trail Maps, among other projects. Besides the above, recipients include Westmoreland Museum of American Art, DCNR Pennsylvania Environmental Council and Jacobs Creek Watershed Association among others. 
   "Through monies received from PA DCNR's Community Conservation Partnership Program (C2P2), Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area has the opportunity to provide assistance to historical and eco-friendly projects throughout Southwestern Pa," said August R. Carlino, President and CEO of Rivers of Steel Heritage Corporation. "It also helps fulfill our mission of fostering and promoting resource conservation and development, heritage tourism, cultural and educational programs and economic revitalization in our region."

 
 
Lengel Brothers Farm now at the Sunday Heritage Market located at The Pump House, accepts Farmers' Market Vouchers 

Farmer Elliot Lengel of Mercer, PA, will be at the Sunday Heritage Market 10 AM to 2 PM the first and third Sundays throughout the rest of the growing season at the Pump House. Some of the fresh items he'll be selling include lettuce, kale, peppers, cucumbers and hanging flower baskets. He will also be accepting Farmers' Market Vouchers provided by the PA Department of Agriculture provided to eligible seniors and WIC recipients. Other vendors include The Bulgarian-Macedonian Center, Intentional Stones, Rise Above Bakery and Pittsburgh Food Trucks such as Oh My Grill and Dozen Dessert Truck as well as many other craft vendors. The Sunday Heritage Market offers the public a chance to explore the historic Pump House and also to support and enjoy local artisans, businesses, music, and fun!    Pennsylvania's Statewide Conference on Heritage will be held at the historic William Penn Hotel in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh. The conference will begin July 16th with pre-conference workshops teeming and will conclude on Friday, July 19th. Pittsburgh's industrial history, rich ethnic heritage, vibrant and well-preserved downtown, and stunning collection of historic bridges provide the perfect backdrop for a lively discussion about how to preserve historic and archaeological resources. 

     The Statewide Conference will be headquartered at the historic William Penn Hotel. The renowned hotel was designed by architects Benno Janssen and Franklin Abbott and built by Henry Clay Frick in 1916. 
  With 23 sessions and workshops, including one at the Carrie Blast Furnaces, five tours, and three evening events, the Statewide Conference on Heritage provides  attendees with an action packed week at an affordable price. General registration rates are set at $135 and include access to all sessions, select walking tours, and two evening events-the private cruise on the Gateway Clipper and the conference reception.
