Q:  Do I really need cardio AND toning in my workouts?

 

A:

For the best results in your fitness program it is important to combine aerobic exercises with toning exercises.   

 

The aerobic exercises raise the heart rate for a period of time to help strengthen the heart and increase lung capacity.   

Toning exercises, such as weight lifting or isometrics, help build lean muscle and increase your metabolic rate which, in turn, will help you burn more calories even while you are at rest.   

When these exercises are combined it increases the effectiveness of both.   

 

Also, let us not forget the importance of stretching which helps you maintain your range of motion and joint mobility...especially as you age.

HEALTHY FOOD TIPS
Have you ever wondered how to pick the perfect produce? Here are some tips!    

 

 

 With peaches, look for dark spots! That's where sunbeams hit the fruit and make it sweeter.  

 

With mangos and oranges, it's all about aroma: the more fragrant, the sweeter the fruit.  

 

But don't try sniffing an avocado-the clue to a ripe one is hidden under the button of its stem. If green, it's good to go. But brown means it's probably overripe and squishy.

 

With watermelons pick one that seems dense for its size. A yellow spot means it probably ripened on the ground while still on the vine. This is good. Now thump on the watermelon 2 inches from your ear. If it sounds hollow it probably means you have found the perfect watermelon.
