St Francis: Past, Present and Future
Part 3 - Who do we want to become?
  • September 27
    - "Who do we want to become?" -As we consider our future, what new issues might we address for our church family and beyond our walls? What topics would you like explored in classes, the Lenten series, or organized into small groups? What else is on your mind or heart as we consider our future? Any further new insights for our ministry areas--Children and Families, Youth, Music, Worship, Adult Christian Formation, Outreach, Peace and Justice, Membership, Fellowship, Pastoral Care?
  • October 4 - St Francis Day - St Francis said,
"Preach the gospel at all times,
use words when necessary."

Come to church to find out what the question for this final week will be!

And if you can't take part on Sundays-please email or write or call Mo. Paula with anything you wish to say. We want to hear all your voices!
Calling All Acolytes Old and New!
Also this Sunday September 27, 8:45 am
Under the arches outside the main church, we will meet for training for those youth interested in being an acolyte and refresher training, including crucifer training, for our current acolytes. As is our custom, juice and doughnuts will be provided! If you have any questions, please contact Hank Gatlin! Thank you all for your service to our parish! Godspeed!
Music
Step Up to Jazz!

This Saturday, September 26 at 7pm the Frank Potenza Organ Trio will perform in the Parish Hall.
Frank Potenza is a spectacular guitarist and teacher, and brings with him Joe Bagg on Hammond Organ and Jason Harnell on drums, both of whom have stellar reputations in the Jazz world. Come enjoy this wonderful music and support our Jazz Series!

New! Jazz Vespers 2nd Sunday of the month at 4pm,
starting Sunday October 11.

We are getting ready to embark on a new adventure--adding Jazz Vespers to our mix of worship opportunities. At this time we plan to offer a Jazz Vespers Service on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 4:00, beginning on October 11.
In addition to the monthly services we will have periodic jazz concerts--like the Frank Potenza concert above--partly for just plain enjoyment and partly to raise money to support the Jazz Vesper Services.

Each of these events needs some people to support it. There is typically some set-up, sometimes a reception, ushers, and clean up involved. We would like to form a team of folks who are willing to take turns helping. If we get enough people we won't wear anyone out! If you'd be interested in helping support the Jazz Ministry at St Francis, please respond to Jeannie Cobb. This ministry will be not only rewarding, but fun!  To volunteer or ask questions, contact Jeannie Cobb or leave a phone message 310 375-4617 ext 228.

Sunday School
Thank you to those families who have given their completed registration form to us. In case of any emergency, we know by having these forms, we can be ready.
If you have not done so already, please turn in a registration form for each child ages 0-11 (yes, even those children in the Nursery) to church office or on first Sunday your children attend. Click here for forms.

We provide Godly Play Parent Pages for parents to help recall--and in a sense relive--the Godly Play presentation at home.  With this in mind, each Parent Page begins with suggestions for encouraging this sharing, then offers a condensed retelling of the lesson.  Also, each Parent Page gives you information to help you understand Godly Play methodology and purpose.  Click here to see this week's Parent Page, The Days of Creation.

Associates Out of Town
Even as we welcome Bishop Mary Glasspool, we are missing our two new Associate
Rectors Peter Huang and J R Lander.

Rev. Peter Huang is in Korea as part of the Episcopal AsiaAmerica Ministries Bi-Annual Consultation. He is representing St Francis and also the Chinese Convocation, of which he is Secretary.
Rev. J R Lander is leading a workshop on stewardship for a parish in Lake Oswego, Oregon, and is preaching there today.

Need a prayer, or to talk with the clergy?

Contact Mo. Paula
or via the church office on 310-375 4617.

You are not interrupting our work -

you ARE our work!

Or just come to any or all of our services, and take a moment to sit quietly, light a candle in memory, or to symbolize your feeling, and let God be God - in you - for a few small, still moments. With blessings and prayers for comfort and love.

Clergy Transition Process

The St. Francis Vestry is very pleased to announce that Bishop Bruno has named Mother Paula as our Priest in Charge Under Special Circumstances (PIC-USC) effective April 1st! This decision initiates a formal mutual discernment period of 12 months to call Mother Paula as our Rector. As always, feel free to contact our Senior Warden Fabrizio, or any Vestry member if you have any questions regarding the Rector transition process. Any Vestry member can be contacted via the church office at 310-375-4617. You can also email Fabrizio directly.
