Please note that the ending of the staff emails is stfrancispalosverdes.org AND NOT stfrancispv.org. Mo Paula has apparently not received emails sent to her this past month with the pv.org ending only. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please change your email addresses for our staff. Thank you.

We provide Godly Play Parent Pages for parents to help recall--and in a sense relive--the Godly Play presentation at home.  With this in mind, each Parent Page begins with suggestions for encouraging this sharing, then offers a condensed retelling of the lesson.  Also, each Parent Page gives you information to help you understand Godly Play methodology and purpose.  Click here to see this week's Parent Page, The Holy Family.

Have You Ever Wanted To Play Handbells?
On September 13 the choir will sing an anthem that has parts for several Handbell players. We'd love to include you! Let Jeannie know you're available and we'll work out a rehearsal time. Reading music is helpful, but we can coach you if you're a beginner. Contact Jeannie to volunteer or with questions. Jeannie Cobb or leave a phone message 310 375-4617 ext 228.
VoiceWorkshop
Missed the Free Voice Workshop Last Saturday?
Catch a second chance
Tuesday September 8, 6:30-8:30pm
Led by Jeannie Cobb
Our voices are muscles. They get weak when they aren't used, but they can get stronger with exercise! As we age our voices change, and if we use our voices constantly at work they can get 'out of balance.' But help is here! Attend one or both workshops to help beginners understand healthy vocal production, and to help anyone who feels out of shape know how to get back to vocal health. Some lecturing, but mostly experiencing.

All are welcome! All ages, all genders, all levels of experience. Let this be the year that you lift your song with special joy! Let Jeannie know you're coming by email Jeannie Cobb or leave a phone message 310 375-4617 ext 228.

Choir Seeks New Singers
No auditions required - anyone can join.
Our choir will sadly be losing several members this year due to retirement and moves. Now is a great time to join in the fun! Rehearsals begin Thursday, September 9, 7:15-9:00pm. No audition. A love of singing and a willingness to be reliable are the only requirements. Music reading helps, but we also are learning together, so your skills will get better. Come be part of this fun group! Contact: Email Jeannie Cobb or leave a phone message 310 375-4617 ext 228.

Save the Date - Get Connected Sunday
Sunday September 13 - ONE service only - 10am
This year, instead of doing a full-blown parish profile that would have led to a Rector Search Committee, you have called me as Priest-in-Charge Under Special Circumstances, which makes me eligible to be called as Rector in the Spring of 2016, if we discern that is best for all of us. I believe we still need to gather input from everyone as we go forward. Thus the Vestry, and a committee led by Peter Marshall, have come up with the following process.   Mo. Paula+
St Francis Parish: Past, Present and Future-4 Sundays
  • September 13 - Get Connected Sunday, plus "History Hour" - This will be an interactive experience based on a timeline of our parish. Everyone can give input and add where you are in our history, in a fun way (absolutely no public speaking required!).
  • September 20 - "Who are we?" - What do you like about our church? What can we improve upon?
Some areas for you to think about include: Children and Families, Youth, Music, Worship, Adult Christian Formation, Outreach, Social Justice, Membership, Fellowship, Pastoral Care, plus anything that is on your mind or heart.
  • September 27 - "Who do we want to become?" - How do we want to advance? Where are we going into the future?
  • October 4 - St Francis Day - St Francis said,
"Preach the gospel at all times,
use words when necessary."

Come to church to find out what the question for this final week will be!

Step Up to Jazz!
New! Jazz Vespers 2nd Monday of the month at 4pm,
starting Monday October 11.
Plus...  we are starting a Jazz Concert Series!   For your listening pleasure, September 26, at 7pm Saturday
night, the Frank Patenza Organ Trio will perform in the church.   A reception will follow the concert.

We are getting ready to embark on a new adventure--adding Jazz Vespers to our mix of worship opportunities. At this time we plan to offer a Jazz Vespers Service on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 4:00, beginning on October 11.
In addition to the monthly services we will have periodic jazz concerts--partly for just plain enjoyment and partly to raise money to support the Jazz Vesper Services.

Each of these events needs some people to support it. There is typically some set-up, sometimes a reception, ushers, and clean up involved. We would like to form a team of folks who are willing to help. If we get enough people we can all take turns and not wear anyone out! If you'd be interested in helping support the Jazz Ministry at St Francis, please respond to Jeannie Cobb. This ministry will be not only rewarding, but fun!  To volunteer or ask questions, contact Jeannie Cobb or leave a phone message 310 375-4617 ext 228.

Clergy Transition Process

The St. Francis Vestry is very pleased to announce that Bishop Bruno has named Mother Paula as our Priest in Charge Under Special Circumstances (PIC-USC) effective April 1st! This decision initiates a formal mutual discernment period of 12 months to call Mother Paula as our Rector. As always, feel free to contact our Senior Warden Fabrizio, or any Vestry member if you have any questions regarding the Rector transition process. Any Vestry member can be contacted via the church office at 310-375-4617. You can also email Fabrizio directly.
