What's Happening!

Update on Mo. Paula's Knee
from Mo. Paula,
"I
had a recheck appointment with the orthopedic surgeon to reconsider which of two options would be best for me for surgery on my torn meniscus.  After receiving the doctor's honest, clear input and his recommendation, I decided for option B, the arthroscopic cleaning of the torn meniscus. I will have pre-op tests, EKG, bloodwork, etc. on July 8, follow up on July 15,and surgery on July 21.   I will be off my feet for 1-2 days and then back in the saddle! Thanks for your care, support and prayers".

Gratefully,

Mo. Paula+

Next Sunday is 'Undie Sunday'!
wait...what?
Yes! Next week (July 12th), we will celebrate "Undie Sunday" by collecting and blessing your donations of new only underwear, and socks, for St. Luke's homeless population. Undies will include both men's and women's, all sizes (no children's): bras, briefs, panties and T-shirts for women; boxers, briefs and tee shirts for men. Please, no used undies. We all know how nice it is to put on brand new underwear, and especially for this population that we regularly serve. Bins will be provided at the entrance doors of the church, and ushers will bring the bins forward to be blessed at the 10a.m. service before we deliver them to St. Luke's at our Breakfast Ministry the following Saturday, Jul 18. Your generosity is much appreciated!
Mama Hill's Help
Important note for summer - no donations for June and July please.
Mama Hill's Help will not be accepting donations during the rest of June and all of July. She is closed until the Cookies return to school in mid-August. Please do not leave donations in the labeled bins in the Parish Hall during this time.
Instead, Mama asks that you please consider donating to our Rummage Sale (please no clothing items this year), in August if you absolutely must get things out of your home before she reopens. Please email, call or text Jayne at 424-477-4349  if you have any questions. Peace and blessings to you and your families.
New Diocesan Bishop Appointment - Listening Session...Nearby
Saturday, July 18th, from 10:00AM-Noon
at St. Cross, 1818 Monterey Boulevard, Hermosa Beach.

As announced in church, our Diocese will be holding a series of Listening Sessions throughout the Diocese to help our Bishop Diocesan Search Committee build its Diocesan Profile, which will be instrumental in preparing to nominate Bishop Diocesan candidates, one of whom will succeed Bishop Bruno.
We ask for your prayers for this search process, but we also ask for your participation, if possible, in one of the Listening Sessions.
Sessions are scheduled this summer throughout the Diocese and in multiple languages.

The Search Committee is interested in listening to "your vision of who we aspire to be as a Diocese and the skill and qualities you believe are necessary for a leader who will shepherd us in the years to come."

If you have any questions, St. Francis parishioner Hank Gatlin is a member of the Search Committee and will be helping to facilitate the sessions at St. John's and St. Cross. He would welcome discussing the search process with you. Contact him via the church office on 310 375-4617.

'Can Can Cornucopia'
Sunday, July 26
Kick up your heels, as the people of St. Francis will once again generously contribute to feeding the families of Mama Hill's Help (and possibly others) by collecting canned food...thus, "Can Can Cornucopia!"
Please look through your own storage and go shopping if necessary, for canned foods that can be easily heated up or eaten right out of the cans. Those tab top cans are PERFECT for this food drive, as not even a can opener is needed. While Mama Hill's Help is closed until mid-August, the need for food is ongoing. Help make possible  a meal for a day or two for a needy family or individual...it takes   so very little for each of us to make a significant impact on those less fortunate.
(Side note from experience: no pumpkin or pumpkin pie filling, please)
.
Join us in celebrating our ability to do what we can...can...can!

Clergy Transition Process

The St. Francis Vestry is very pleased to announce that Bishop Bruno has named Mother Paula as our Priest in Charge Under Special Circumstances (PIC-USC) effective April 1st! This decision initiates a formal mutual discernment period of 12 months to call Mother Paula as our Rector. As always, feel free to contact our Senior Warden Fabrizio, or any Vestry member if you have any questions regarding the Rector transition process. Any Vestry member can be contacted via the church office at 310-375-4617. You can also email Fabrizio directly.
