Exploring The Book Of Common Prayer
Sundays Nov 16 and Dec 7 at 11:45 am.
Library
. Bring $5 for sandwich lunch
Led by The Very Rev. Paula Vukmanic
These two sessions will uncover the fascinating history of the Book of Common Prayer (BCP), from the vision of Henry the 8th in the 16th century to the 1978 Book of Common Prayer. We will look at the amazing contents of the BCP and how it frames our public and private worship and prayer. The Book of Common Prayer is in every pew of the chapel and church and is the framework of our Episcopal identity. Let's look at what is inside and unpack its impact on us!
Military Outreach
Fun and Friendship at our Packing session:
Sunday, November 16
from 3-5 pm. 5008 Milne Drive, Torrance. Please call if you are coming so we have enough boxes - 310-316-5941. Julie McGovern and Susie Zimmerman thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping any way you can.
First Ever Restaurant Fundraiser
Next Tuesday November 18th-4pm to closing
Please join the St. Francis Outreach Scholarship Fund at their Torrance, Hof's Hut restaurant, fundraiser. All you need to do is take the flyer to the restaurant on that date and 15% of your bill will be donated to the scholarship fund.
One of our new recipients in 2014, Jackeline Hernandez, has worked at Hof's Hut for several years and will be working there that night. Jackeline is a freshman at El Camino. She lost her mother to breast cancer as a young girl and due to this, has been inspired to be in the healthcare field-hopefully as a nurse.
Invite friends and neighbors to attend, just make copies of the flyer to give them. The only requirement from the restaurant is that flyers not be distributed in their parking lot the night of the event.
Hof's Hut is a long-established, and family-run restaurant. :)
Jazz Concert Thank You!
A thank you to the hippest parishioners in any diocese!
"...sheer joy", "an audience with the perfect vibe to play for."
My thanks go to those on the stage and in the audience, and those who gave their creativity, time, and labor for an audience of 233 "jazz people" in a hugely successful concert evening - especially Dick Briggs, Jeannie and Clayton Cobb, Liz Colagiuri, David Gerhardt, Elaine and Lloyd Mistele, Sara Shultz, Wendy Pratt, Darryl Tillman, Susie Zimmerman, my wife Valmere, Mo. Sarah, and Mo. Paula. I truly thank all those who gave so generously to establish our Jazz Vespers program - which we hope to have on the last Sunday afternoon of the month, starting Jan 2015. Thanksgiving Day Service
10am Thursday November 27th

Take an hour on Thanksgiving day to remember how fortunate we are.
Advent Quiet Day - 'Surprised by God'
Tues December 2nd, 9:30 -12:00, Boardroom and Chapel.

Led by the Very Rev. Paula Vukmanic

Too many of us have domesticated God. We have lost the ability to be amazed at God's glory and power.  We want God to answer our prayers immediately or lead us with clear certainty.  And God does come but often in ways we least expect.  We need to recapture a true sense of wonder at God's power and character, that God might again surprise us by coming to us in Jesus, Emmanuel, God-with-us, the promise of Advent waiting.

The morning will include presentations, quiet time and prayerful sharing.  Bring a bag lunch for fellowship afterwards.  Sponsored by the ECW for women and men of our parish and their friends.
