Dear Friends,

Just a reminder of some upcoming events you won't want to miss. The role that bees play in our food production is essential. Come see an important film about the plight of the bees which affects us all. We're ending Smart Money Week with a paper shredding event designed to enhance your personal privacy. We'll be two days early, but join us in learning about and celebrating the important Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo with our new friends from Grupo Folklorico!

Happy spring,

Jim Cosgrove, Director

Thursday, April 24 -  Film & Program

On Thursday, April 24th, at 7pm, the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum will be showing the film The Queen of the Sun (www.queenofthesun.com) at the Library. This engaging film explores the mysteries of the beehive and highlights the recent unnerving decline in bee populations.  Beekeepers, scientists, and philosophers share stories of problems and potential solutions to maintaining healthy bee populations.  This hour-long film will be followed by a Q & A session with museum staff.  Please RSVP here through our online event calendar.  Walk-ins welcome.

Come to our interactive, cross-cultural educational program for children featuring traditional Mexican dance and arts presented by Grupo Folklorico of Poughkeepsie. Youth and adults are invited to learn about Mexican culture from members of the local Mexican community through hands-on activities including making cascarones (confetti-filled egg shells, traditionally used at Easter and during community celebrations) and piņatas. The program, which begins at 1:00 p.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m., also includes a short performance and experiential lesson-demonstration of traditional folk dancing.
