     It's hard to believe that our end-of-summer reading party is next week on Wednesday, August 7! Where did the summer go? Staff are already gearing up for the fall. Copies of September Book Club selection are still available at the front desk.

Please take a minute to review the news and reminders below.

Aug. 7th - Reading Party!! 2:00 p.m
 
  

Kids (and parents reading to their kids) who submit their reading logs to the Library by August 5th are eligible to attend the End-of-Season Summer Reading Party! On Wednesday, August 7th at 2:00 p.m. participants will celebrate their accomplishments with fellow readers. Kids will receive a personalized reading certificate and a prize. Cake and refreshments will be provided. Be sure to hand in your reading records by August 5th!  

**REMINDER**All book reviews for the teen and adult reading programs must be submitted by August 5th to be eligible to win gift cards and prizes! (Prizes include a $15 iTunes gift card, booklights, and Book Barn gift cards).

**REMINDER** All gnome photos must be in by August 5th to be eligible to win a Meet Me in Marlborough Gift Card!

Our last Wednesday Evening Performer of the season!
Come on out and have some fun with the whole family on Wednesday August 7th at 7pm with Bill Robinson and Birds of Prey. Get a close up encounter and educational experience with beautiful birds of prey. Suggested ages 4 and up. http://robinsonswildlifelectures.com. Walk-ins welcome!
August 8th - Library Closing Early 
 

In response to technical upgrades occuring to all library electronic systems on Thursday, August 8, the Library will be open for faxing, photocopying, emailing and web browsing until 1 p.m. Afterwards, the staff will be undergoing training and making interior improvements to the plant. The Library will reopen on Friday, August 9 at 9:30 a.m.

 

Book Club selections available now
 

 

Our Book Club reboots on Wednesday, September 11 at 7 p.m. with March: a novel by Geraldine Brooks, a retelling of Little Women by Luisa May Alcott which will be discussed at that time.  Copies of March and Little Women are available at the front desk for those who wish to read for and comparison and discussion in September.

 

  
Aug. 22 & 27 - Become a Foster Parent 
 
The Ulster County Department of Social Services is continually in need of foster parents. A representative will be at the Library on Thursday, August 22nd from 2-4 p.m. and on Tuesday, August 27th from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to explain what foster parenting is all about. Stop in and find out how you can become a Foster Parent!

 

Sept. 8th - Sunday hours resume
 
The Library will resume Sunday hours (1 to 5 p.m.) on Sunday, September 8 which is the Sunday following the Labor Day holiday.
Sept. 21 - AARP Safe Driver Class

 

The AARP will be sponsoring a safe driver class on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with instructor Karen Khejl.

To pre-register, please bring a personal check or money order to the Library payable to AARP (no cash, please). The cost is $17 for AARP members and $19 for non-members. AARP members must put their membership number on their check or money order. Please bring your driver's license and a bag lunch. Reservations are NOT taken over the phone or by mail. Class size is limited to 30 participants.
