Library Receives Gifts

The Library gratefully acknowledges gifts received at the end of 2012. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Conover donated $10,000. The Conover family have been longtime supporters of the Library. A portion of their gift will be used to subsidize the Summer Reading Program, and the remainder will go the Library's Grants Fund. The Friends of the Marlboro Free Library donated $1,000, raised through raffles and book sales. This gift will also be used to enhance Children's Services.

Library Director Jim Cosgrove thanks Ray Leduc, Sr. (r.) for Early Learning Station given in memory of Claudine LeDuc.
In addition, $1,400 was donated to the Library in the memory of library friend Claudine LeDuc. The funds were used to defray the cost of an additional Early Learning Station in the children's area. The stations have upgraded educational software, touch screens, and two sets of headphones so parents can work with their children. Mrs. Leduc's husband, Raymond, commented that as a professional educator, his wife would have approved of the choice. The Board of Trustees sincerely thanks the family and friends of Claudine who honored her memory with their donations.
Library Book Club - February 27, 7 p.m.

The next book to be discussed at the Library's Book Club is the Star of the Sea by Irish author Joseph O'Connor. The story is set in 1847, with characters trying to escape Ireland during the Great Hunger. It has been described as "a thrilling historical novel with a cast of exotic, mysterious, and dangerous characters on a voyage to the New World." Book Club meets on the last Wednesday of the month and is open to all adults residing in the district.
If you want to start your own book club, ask staff about the "Book Club in a Bag" service which contains 10 paperbacks and sample discussion questions.
