Our last two author visits for Thursdays at Seven are coming up before Thanksgiving. Since I read the New York Times book review back in March, I was hoping that we could get Dr. Armstead to speak at the Library so I'm very excited that she was available! Please call the Library (236-7272, ext.14) or register online to let us know that you are coming. Drop-ins are welcome. All talks begin at 7 p.m. sharp!
Also, please note our holiday closings and book club news.

Thursday, Nov. 8 - Myra B. Young Armstead

Dr. Myra B.Young Armstead is a professor of history at Bard College and the author of  Freedom's Gardener: James F. Brown, Horticulture, and the Hudson Valley in Antebellum America  published by New York University Press. Brown, a former slave, kept a diary of his time working in the gardens of the Verplanck family at Mt. Gulian in Beacon, NY. In this first detailed historical study of Brown's diaries, Dr. Armstead's analysis illuminates the concept of freedom as it developed in our nation's early years. That Brown, an African American and former slave, serves as such a case study underscores the transformative potential of American citizenship during his lifetime.

Dr. Armstead's talk will begin at 7 p.m. sharp in the Library community room.
