Economic Snapshot

The U.S. labor market continued to improve last quarter as unemployment claims fell to near seven-year lows and employee earnings showed signs of slow acceleration. Several key surveys also supported a positive outlook for the economy: 


CFOs continued to be upbeat on hiring, wages and capital as they enter the second half of the year, according to a survey by Financial Executives International and Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business; 


And the majority of CPA business executives recently surveyed by the American Institute of CPAs was also optimistic about prospects for the U.S. economy in the coming year; 


In the area of residential remodeling - a bellwether of economic activity - a new report by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University revealed that growth in home improvement spending is expected to peak during the second half of 2014 and then ease heading into 2015.

Around the Office

RBF supervisor Jimmy Mouchayleh (left) caught up with Governor Duval Patrick during the governor's recent tour of the Cambridge Innovation Center, where RBF has an office. Gov. Patrick was there to gather information about the needs of local start-up businesses, and spoke about what the state is doing to help local entrepreneurs succeed.


Senior accountant Rose Dello Russo has been selected as one of 38 rising stars in the accounting profession to attend the sixth annual American Institute of CPAs Leadership Academy. The five-day program, to be held September 28 - October 2 in Durham, NC, will take participants through a self-examination of leadership, what it means to them, and how it impacts their personal life, their career path, and the CPA profession.
