Cavaretta wins WTS International Scholarship
   

Amy Cavaretta, MAURP 2013, recently won the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) South Florida Scholarship. After winning this award, Cavaretta was nominated by the South Florida Chapter for the WTS International Scholarship and won. She received the Helene Overly Graduate Scholarship amongst candidates from around the world.

 

Cavaretta plans to move to Washington, D.C. to begin a career in federal transportation and infrastructure policy.

  IND alum named one of
UF's Outstanding Young Alumni 
 
    

DCP graduate Jennifer Haney, IND 2007, is a recipient

of the University of Florida's Outstanding Young Alumni Award. The award, established by UF's Alumni Association, recognizes alumni ages 35 or younger who have distinguished themselves in their profession and community.

 

Since graduating from DCP in 2007, Haney moved to New York City and began her career at HLW, a well-established firm that focuses on an interdisciplinary approach to design that includes architecture, interior design, engineering, planning and consulting. Haney has recently been recognized for her work as the lead interior designer on the corporate headquarters for JetBlue in Long Island, NY. The JetBlue project was very successfully and was featured on the cover of the May 2012 issue of Interior Design, the lead trade publication in the field.

 

Haney attributes her success to the studio instruction and faculty at UF.

URP's Distinguished Alumni of the Year
 
Howard E. Nelson, MAURP 1986, has been selected as the Urban Planning Department's "Distinguished Alumni of the Year, 2013," by the URP faculty. Nelson, a practicing attorney in Miami, was selected based on his outstanding work over the past two decades as an environmental and land use law specialist.
  

Nelson has also worked extensively with Developments of Regional Impact (DRIs) and with Florida Quality Developments expedited review process. He has handled concurrency management and zoning matters for many clients and has assisted owners, investors, developers and manufacturers with due diligence review, pre-acquisition issues, landfill permitting, storage tank issues and site remediation.

 

Nelson is an active supporter of the URP program and works with the law firm of Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP, located on Miami's Brickell Avenue.

HP student to intern in Paris this summer
  
Crystal Gates, MHP 2013, was selected for an internship with the World Heritage Unit of the ICOMOS Secretariat in Paris, France. The US/ICOMOS International Exchange Program internships are geared toward individuals who are in their last year of a relevant graduate program or working 1-3 years in a professional field. The intern selection process is highly competitive and is based on skill, demonstrated commitment to historic preservation, previous experience and academic concentration in the field as well as the ability to represent the country in an exchange program.
  
Gates will begin her internship this summer with orientation in Washington, D.C. After living in Paris for more than two months, she will return to Washington, D.C. to give a final presentation.
