Enhanced Independent Living is a new level of care for CCRCs that is being developed from Dr. Campbell's research. The new designs developed by the students focus heavily on the building's social center. Students presented their work at the mid-project review on Monday, Oct. 15 and will present final projects on Friday, Oct. 26.

Bob Rhodes discusses Florida's growth management at Ernest R. Bartley Memorial Lecture

Bob Rhodes (center) flanked by Dr. Kristen Larsen, URP Chair, and Dr. Richard Schneider, lecture series organizer, receives a plaque honoring his talk at the 5th Annual

 Bartley Memorial Lecture.

"Florida's Growth Management: Certain Change, Uncertain Reform" was the topic at last Thursday's Ernest R. Bartley Memorial Lecture, presented by the University of Florida and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning.

Bob Rhodes, a planning leader and attorney, was the guest speaker for the Ernest R. Bartley Memorial Lecture at the Hilton UF Conference Center. Rhodes discussed Florida's growth management and planning legislation while offering suggestions in moving forward. Rhodes is the former executive vice president and general counsel of the St. Joe Company and senior vice president and general counsel for the Arvida and Disney Development Companies.
    LAE students summer travels

This past summer, the Department of Landscape Architecture had several students that had internships around the world. Seven LAE students traveled from Bali and China to Costa Rica and Singapore. Students had the opportunity to work with companies such as CUGE and Turnescape.

Look for these students full stories in the upcoming October issue of the Perspective:

Chris Cook, MLA 2013, lived in Beijing, China, for two months and worked with Turnescape, which is recognized and certified as a first-level design institute by the Chinese government. In his free time, Cook hiked the Great Wall of China and explored the Forbidden City.

Sebastian Pazmino, BLA 2012 and MDP 2014, studied abroad in Paris, France, interned in Costa Rica and worked in Haiti and Honduras. Pazmino has a passion for working in low income communities and highly recommends other students take advantage of these programs if given the opportunity.

Tracy Wyman, BLA 2013, spent her summer in Singapore working with CUGE, the Center for Urban Greenery & Ecology, a training and research division of Singapore's National Parks Board. Wyman worked with students from secondary schools and says her experience was invaluable to her education.

Sebastian Pazmino, BLA 2012 and MDP 2014, pictured above with students at EARTH University in Costa Rica. Pazmino served as a teaching assistant in a design implementation class.
