Open Table welcomes Week Three speakers
 
Newcomers are welcome. On the menu is potato bar w/ chicken, salad bar and ice cream. Dinner is 5 to 6:30 p.m. for $7 (adults) and $5 (kids) with a $25 maximum. Programs for all ages include:
  • Charlotte's Wake-Up Call - A Community Dialogue: Toussaint Romain and Brenda Tindal will give historical and contemporary views on racial inequality and white privilege in Charlotte. 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Details here.
     
  • Telling the Story of Your Life - The Power of Personal Narrative: Evan Amo and Joan Watson will lead our discussion on storytelling. 6:30 to 7:30 in FH 205. Details here.

Cancer, grief support groups are getting underway
Connect with peers and plan a way forward
  • Grief and Healing - Taking the Journey Together: An eight-week group for those grieving the loss of a spouse, parent or family member. Wednesday nights beginning this week at 6:30 p.m. in the Parlor.
  • Fighting Cancer with Hope: A six-week class for people in any stage of cancer diagnosis, treatment or recovery. We meet on Sundays at 6 p.m. in the Parlor.
Faith and sexuality workshop for fifth grade families
Saturday in Ed Wing 307
Dr. Keith Anderson of Cotswold Medical Clinic and Juliet Kuehnle of Southeast Psych will speak to adolescents and parents about puberty, body image and healthy attitudes toward God's gift of sexuality.

Breakout discussion groups will be led by Dr. Louise Rogers, Mary Mattiacci, Bill McNairy, Anne Lowrance and Perrin Tribble.

When: Youth attend from 9 a.m. to noon followed by pizza and a movie break. Parents are invited from noon to 2 p.m. Parents and kids will join each other for the conclusion. Cost is $20 per family (covers books, pizza, snacks). RSVP here.

Learn about summer camp opportunities at Camp Grier. Jason McDougald, executive director, will visit Sunday School this week.  All youth (rising 2nd grade and up) and parents are welcome for coffee, refreshments and conversation.


Join the team for a mission trip in 2017
Covenant will visit Reynosa in March
We'll work on two homes, build raised garden beds, teach nutrition and cooking and sponsor a woodworking project involving tables and benches. The trip is March 26 to April 1.

Gathering up hopes and dreams
Carla Leaf has announced plans to retire in June 2018 after 15+ years as director of mission and outreach. The church is moving toward a search for staff leadership. Share ideas at listening sessions hosted by the Personnel Committee:

First Sunday Talk on communion in the Gospels
Sunday, Feb. 5 at 9:30 a.m.
Paul Galbreath, a professor of theology at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Charlotte, will talk to us about communion in the Gospels. Paul seeks to explore connections between worship and daily life.

Debbie Tyson plans to retire
A friendly face at the front desk for 11 years
Debbie Tyson has announced her retirement from Covenant after almost 11 years. She states, "It has been a real blessing to be here...working with the great staff, getting to know wonderful members and...serving God here...I look forward to spending more time with my grandchildren...my crafts and gardening."
 
Stay tuned for plans to celebrate and give thanks for Debbie's ministry among us.

Covenant is hiring a receptionist to work 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday at the front desk in the Sanctuary building. Click here for details.

Assistant to head of school - Epiphany School
