A guide to Advent season at Covenant           
Find worship service times, social gatherings 
Discover peace, hope, love and joy at Covenant this season. A few of the highlights on the Advent calendar of events:
  • Blue Christmas Service, Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m.: Gather in the Chapel to sing, pray and remember the hope of Christmas. To those in darkness, light is on its way.
  • Lessons and Carols, Sunday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. and  5 p.m., Sanctuary: Nine passages of Scripture are followed by nine carols.
  • Appalachian Candlelight Christmas Eve Service, 3 p.m., Sanctuary. Christmas favorites with the the banjo, mandolin, cello, fiddle, and upright bass.

You have surrounded my family and me, not only with your prayers, but also with many expressions of care, all of which have richly blessed us. 
 
 
Covenant names coordinator of care teams          
Susan Ferone will join staff Dec. 1 
In this new position, Susan will help the church family respond in a focused way when members face life events such as cancer diagnoses, grief and divorce as well as transitions such as job changes.

Susan has a Master's degree in social work and has served in many roles during her membership at Covenant, including Elder and Sunday School Teacher. 

"I am thrilled to join such a talented staff committed to living fully into Covenant's mission statement," Susan said, adding that she "looks forward to providing the space and support for those in our community seeking the comfort of connection that our care groups provide."

Weigh in! We need your thoughts on Covenant's future            
Survey asks how to meet challenges in our city 
We are exploring the possibility of launching a major campaign to address specific needs in our city and to re-define Covenant's role in Charlotte. The five focal points are 21st Century Campus, Affordable Housing, Full-Day Child Care, Public Education and Epiphany School.
 
We seek candid opinions on these projects and other dimensions of our congregation's life and mission.

Tonight's menu is Chicken Pitas, Mixed Vegetables, Cookies & Ice Cream. Cost is $5 for children, $7 for adults (max of $25). Programs begin at 6:30 for all age groups. Child care is available. RSVP here.

Kim Moseley, a professional counselor and Covenant member, will speak as part of the Hard Questions, Healing Conversations series.

In this season of unrest and mistrust in Charlotte, Molly Barker will speak on the impact of listening to one another across differences in race, religion, class and culture. Molly founded the nationally acclaimed Girls on the Run. Details here.

Help Jessica with her doctoral research
Beginning Sunday at 11 a.m. Fellowship Hall service
Associate minister Jessica Patchett is working on the final project of her Doctor of Ministry program at Columbia Theological Seminary, and will conduct research in the Fellowship Hall worship service for the next five weeks. 

Attendees are invited to complete a survey at the conclusion of the service (online or on paper). The service will be recorded for the next five weeks for research purposes. Jessica is also seeking people to participate in focus groups. Contact Jessica to sign up.
Join us for Friendsgiving, a Thanksgiving tradition
Sunday, Nov. 20, 5 p.m. at Unknown Brewing
Get together with friends for a laid-back start to Thanksgiving. We'll provide main dishes (with vegetarian option). Taproom will be open. RSVP page.
