A Message from Bob Henderson                        Friday, November 4, 2016

Dear friends:

In the past 25 years or so, there's been a big move away from older, more established congregations like ours to worship centers that are more energetic, more current, more relevant, more whatever.

But one thing they often are not is more broad, especially when it comes to duration. And that's a uniquely rich dimension of a congregation like ours. Over the years, we've known a lot of people: young people, old people, cranky people, gentle people, and nearly every other kind of person. We've also weathered a lot of storms, cultural and otherwise, in which all sorts of extreme folks, fringe groups, and start-up movements have come and gone. We've experienced tragedy and joy, and know from experience we will live through it. We've known a lot of saints, and those saints have not been all the same sort of person.

This weekend, we'll explore exactly what makes for a 'saint,' and you may be surprised. We'll remember loved ones lost over the past year, embrace a marvelous choral presentation of Eleanor Daley's "Requiem" at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary, and partake in communion in all services. In addition, Lauren Winner is speaking in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 on the topic of "Receiving God as the Bread of Life." She'll definitely be worth hearing. You can prepare by reading these two passages.

See you Sunday,
