A Message from Bob Henderson Friday, September 9, 2016

Dear friends:
I've prayed and thought hard over the sermons for the next few weeks. I am excited about our worship.
This weekend, on the fifteenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we'll explore a Christian response to Muslim extremism. This is a complex topic which will require the best of us. It might even require a sermon a few minutes longer than normal! You can read two passages here and here in preparation.
In addition to a challenging sermon topic, this week we'll re-launch an early service in the Chapel that will typically include traditional music, a chamber choir, and the same sermon as other services. We'll gather at 8:45 and conclude close to 9:30 a.m. I hope you'll give this service a try. You may enjoy the intimacy and quiet of a smaller setting.
In my research for this week's sermon topic, I consulted Dr. Jonathan Berkey, Professor of History at Davidson College. We'll hear excerpts of his interview during the sermon, but Dr. Berkey shared considerably more insight about Islam than can be included on Sunday. If you'd like to prepare and to know more, I invite you to watch these "director's cut" segments of the interview (Click here for clip one; click here for clip two; and click here for clip three). I trust you'll find them fascinating.
With gratitude for you all,
Bob Henderson, senior minister
