Meet a Presbyterian planting seeds of hope in Middle East
What does it mean to bring Christian love and witness to a part of the world besieged by conflict?
For Elmarie Parker, it means praying regularly for those who are carrying out violence, offering forgiveness to the perpetrators and inviting dialogue and partnership with the moderate Muslim community.
This is painstaking work. But Elmarie believes in the cause, even if change comes slowly and unevenly. Hear from Elmarie today (details below).
As a regional liaison for Presbyterian Church USA, Elmarie is part of a group of Christians seeding outreach ministries, preschools and prison visitation programs for female inmates. Elmarie says her friendships with peacemakers on the ground keep her from growing discouraged. "I'm ever grateful for the great sense of humor, persevering resilience and genuine compassion that is such a profound part of Middle Eastern culture," she said. Lunch & Learn Today: Hear Elmarie speak on "The Shape of Hope in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon" hosted by Rev. Jessica Patchett today from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary Building Parlor. Bring your lunch or click here to order a boxed lunch for $7.
