Covenant runners, walkers hit the streets for 5K
A group of athletes from Covenant crossed the finish line Saturday for a good cause. Some walked. Some ran. And some rode in a stroller. The Sawyers clan, Lauren and children, Luke, Madeline and Emily, joined a contingent from Covenant in a 5K to raise awareness about domestic violence. Our friends at The Park Church hosted the festivities. If you can't tell by their big smiles, these youngsters love to go fast. "Running tends to be "my" thing and to share it with them -- and have them delight in it with me -- is the greatest reward," Lauren said. "They got as excited about the race as I did."
Perry Dixon, Covenant's high school ministry director, didn't push a stroller.
That's probably a good thing - Perry admits he got a little winded on the hilly course. But he also found fulfillment: "There is something sacred about running together," he said. "Covenant was welcomed by The Park into an energized community race that was wonderful to experience together."
