A Message from Bob Henderson                Good Friday, March 25, 2016

Dear friends,

One of the Easter traditions I've always enjoyed is also arguably the least important - the tradition of the new Easter outfit. Easter was the occasion when you got to wear new clothes of some kind, a new jacket, new shoes, at least a new tie or belt. I got my first real suit for Easter Sunday morning one year. A poly/wool Glenn Plaid complete with a yellow knit tie, which best as I recall, didn't really match my all-purpose brown dress shoes. But back then, who could fathom such extravagance as having two pairs of dress shoes?

Fortunately, as I've grown older, I realize that Easter is about much more important issues, issues, literally, of life or death, about what is most true about our world. That's the deeper issue of Easter - the profoundly important matter of the truth about our world. And the fundamental claim of Easter is that life is stronger than death, love stronger than hate, and truth crushed to earth is certain to rise again.

It's hard sometimes, in our deeply conflicted world, to believe these things. Reports of terror, endless war, and hate-speech fill the news cycle now more than ever. And yet, along comes Easter with a fundamentally counter-cultural word: Life is stronger than death, love stronger than hate.

We'll celebrate that truth this Sunday at all four services. Our Good Friday service will be streamed live from The Park Church at 12 noon today. Saturday offers a joyful children's service at 10 a.m., complete with requisite animals on the Green and an egg hunt. All services will have great music, beautiful decorations, and if we're lucky, an Easter hat or two.

Join us, and bring a friend.
