TALLEY RETIREMENT
Steve and Susan Talley

On Monday evening, we announced to Session that music ministry director Stephen Talley and associate music ministry director and organist Susan Talley plan to retire from Covenant in July 2015. The Personnel Committee has also approved Steve's and Susan's requests for well-deserved sabbatical leaves of absence beginning April 20. The Talleys are about to break ground and begin construction of their new home in Kayenta, an artistic desert community in southwest Utah. They plan to be active volunteers in the Kayenta Arts Foundation and the Kayenta Center for the Arts. Read more. 

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
For the Election of Elders
Sunday, Sept. 21, 10:30 a.m.

 

A congregational meeting is called for Sunday, Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary for the purpose of electing 10 adult Elders to the Session class of 2017, and two Youth Elders to serve one-year terms beginning Jan. 1.

 

Here you'll find the people who will be nominated by the Elder Nominating Committee. Additional nominations may be made from the floor at the time of the meeting by any active member of the congregation. Those wishing to nominate someone must have consent of the nominee, and the nominee must be present.

NEW WORSHIP SERVICE

We had a great start to our new service in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, as well as great activity across campus in worship, education and fellowship. Join us this week for services at 9:30 or 11 a.m., traditional or contemporary. 

 

Serve Together This Sunday

Gather in Fellowship Hall from 12 tp 1 p.m. to make sandwiches for neighbors who are homeless. We'll be done in time for you to catch the Panthers game.

Health & Wellness presents Dr. James Boyd, who is board certified in internal medicine and oncology and is a leader in the Charlotte community in the holistic treatment of cancer. He will discuss some of his approaches to cancer treatment and new horizons in oncology care.

Introduction to the Study of Mark
Kickoff Presentation by Suzanne Henderson
Suzanne Henderson, professor at Queens University of Charlotte, will open our fall programs with a preview of the gospel of Mark and some insights into studying the Bible in small groups. We'll break on Sept. 24 for the presentation by the Rev. Mitri Raheb, and then small groups will begin Oct. 1. Try any of three unique Bible studies, each offering reading to do at home and focused small group conversation, a great opportunity for people hoping to build relationships with others through a brief season together. (Oct 1 - Nov 19)

Fostering Christian Hope in the Holy Lands

This month our community will host Palestinian students from Mitri Raheb's Dar al-Kalima University College of Arts, Culture and Design and the Bright Stars of Bethlehem program. We partner with this ministry to bring awareness and encouragement to people working for peace in the Holy Lands. Several of our college students visited Palestinian students and their families in May as part of their trip to the region. Join us as young people share stories of hope and peace through the arts.

Hope in the Holy Land: A Musical Witness from Bethlehem at Queens University of Charlotte, featuring acclaimed violinist Georges Lamman, who exemplifies the Arab style of instrumental improvisation and lyricism. $10 at the door.

Friday, Sept. 26: 6:30 p.m. 
Dinner and film festival at Covenant. $25 per person, limited seating. A meal of Mediterranean cuisine will be prepared by students in the culinary program of Bright Stars, and recipes will be available. RSVP to the church office, (704)-333-9071.
