When I was preparing for the 2013 Mother's Weekend art festival on the Oregon State campus, I needed to choose a picture to be working on at the show. Mary had been encouraging me to draw the Memorial Union and other buildings; I decided to start with Benton Hall. Being the original classroom building on campus, it has become quite iconic; but, I wanted a different view. I tried several camera shots and especially liked the one through the flowering cherry blossoms. Drawing so many blooms so close together was my challenge on this piece.
It seemed fitting to draw Benton Hall first in what I hope to be a series of OSU buildings. This one dates back to 1889 and, in addition to classrooms, it has also housed a number of offices (including that of the president), laboratories and the first library on campus. Benton Hall has been home to the music department since the mid-1920s.
Benton Hall is drawn in pen & ink and finished with a watercolor wash and colored pencil. It took a little over 19 hours to complete; click on the picture to see a larger image. This 10"x8" original drawing will sell for $760. If you'd like to see this drawing in person, please let me know!

| 2014 Calendars Are Available |
|
 This year we have several calendars to offer you. The Pacific Northwest Lighthouses calendar has been a favorite for several years and is back again for 2014. The new one we are pleased to announce is the long-awaited Oregon Covered Bridges calendar. Other favorites from the past are also still available on special order.

Calendars are 11 x 8.5" closed (11 x 17" opened), spiral-bound and printed on heavy card stock. Each page bears the scripture verse we have chosen to go with each picture.

| "Our Family" is Changing |

As you know, all profit from the sale of Acrewood Art pieces is used for outreach to children. Our primary, on-going charity of choice is Compassion International. (Click here to check out their website.) With your support, we currently sponsor 6 children. If you have been following us for awhile, you will know that number has changed.
Alexy and his family recently moved to an area in Ecuador that does not have a Child Development Center. We have sponsored him since 2007 when he was 9. He has been replaced by Breyan, age 15, also from Ecuador. We are also sad to learn that Julliana from Dominican Republic has dropped out of the program at age 16 after 7 years of sponsorship.
