BISD voters approve $163.2 million bond package

Today, Birdville Independent School District voters approved a $163.2 million bond package that impacts every student and every school. Superintendent Dr. Darrell G. Brown praised the efforts of the Board of Trustees, the 2014 Bond Planning Committee, the Birdville Backers, and the BISD staff and community. "These groups spent countless hours working to communicate the facts about the needs across the district," said Brown. "I thank each of you for your continued investment in the future of our children and our community."

Voters approved:

  • Birdville Elementary
  • Academy at West Birdville Elementary
  • North Richland Middle

Science Upgrades

  • Provide for safe and compliant science labs

Technology Upgrades

  • Provide a robust wireless network to serve every classroom
  • Replace obsolete technology devices
  • Fund technology upgrades to meet current and future instructional needs

Renovations & Upgrades

  • Improve facility equity among high schools

With 54 of 69 precincts reporting, 23,417 total voters turned out with 15,599 voting in favor and 7,818 voting against the bond package.

With the passage of the bond, BISD will begin to develop a production schedule for each project. Once the schedule is finalized, it will be posted on the district's website. However, the schedule will be subject to change as projects are bid and work proceeds across the district. In addition, the Board of Trustees has put into place plans for a citizen's oversight committee. This committee will monitor the progress of the work to assure consistency with the bond program approved by voters. At least four times a year, the committee will report on the progress to Trustees. In addition to the report to Trustees, regular committee reports will be available for review on the district's website.
