Board of Trustees Meeting Summary



The Board of Trustees met in regular session on Thursday,  
June 26. The following link will provide you a summary of actions taken at their meeting.     

 

 

 


Birdville ISD is recognized for financial responsibility/ transparency


State Comptroller Susan Combs recently notified Birdville ISD that it has earned the prestigious 2014 Platinum Leadership Circle Award. The Platinum Award is the highest level awarded to local government entities for financial transparency. BISD scored 21 out of 22 on the ratings criteria to earn this award. The district is now listed on the "Texas Transparency" website as a Platinum seal recipient (texastransparency.org/LocalGovernment/LeadershipCircle/).

The Comptroller of Public Accounts launched the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle program to recognize local government entities across Texas that are striving to meet a high standard for financial transparency online. They are spotlighting local government entities that are:
  • opening their books to the public;
  • providing clear, consistent pictures of spending; and
  • sharing information in a user-friendly format that lets taxpayers easily drill down for more detail.

Trustees approve Haltom Middle School principal

 

At their regular board meeting on June 26, Birdville ISD's Board of  Trustees approved Jill Balzer as principal for Haltom Middle School. She is replacing Jeff Russell, who was recently named principal at Decatur High School.

 

Balzer has been principal at Charles E. Patterson Middle School in Killeen ISD since 2008. Prior to Patterson Middle School, she was assistant principal and curriculum instructional specialist at Harker Heights High School in Killeen ISD from 2005-08; pre-advanced placement world geography teacher and coach at Harker Heights High School in Killeen ISD from 2004-05; pre-advanced placement world geography teacher and coach at McNeil High School in Round Rock ISD from 2000-04; secondary social studies teacher at Andover High School in Andover, Kansas from 1995-2000; and an at-risk teacher and coach at West Elk High School in Howard, Kansas from 1993-95.

 

She earned her bachelor's degree from Emporia State University and master's degree from Wichita State University.
