2013-14 Inclement Weather Make-up Days for Campus Staff

There seems to be some confusion among staff concerning bad weather make-up days on the 2013-14 school calendar. The Texas Education Agency requires school districts to have two inclement weather make-up days built into each year's school calendar. These days must be used if the district is closed because of inclement weather. If the district is closed, students and staff are required to make up the days missed.

Because of the ice days in December 2013, students will follow the schedule below:
  • Students will make up the Friday, Dec. 6 inclement weather day on Monday, Feb. 17; and
  • Students will make up the Monday, Dec. 9 inclement weather day on Friday, April 18.
Also due to the December 2013 ice days, campus staff who work less than 236 days each year will follow the schedule below:

  • Staff will make up the Monday, Feb. 17 district professional development day on Saturday, April 12; and
  • Staff will make up the Friday, April 18 campus professional learning day on Thursday, June 5.
Administration is still reviewing available options for employees who work 236 days or more each school year and will share them as soon as a final decision is reached.

Superintendent's Communications Council Q&A

Help us promote the great things happening around BISD and in your classrooms. Throughout the year, we invite you to email 1-3 pictures along with a one or two sentence description for us to promote on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. With more than 11,000 followers on our social media sites, we want them to see our BISD pride!

In the one- to two-sentence description, please don't include student names--keep it generic. For example, "Second-grade students at Hardeman Elementary learn about ...."

The Communications Department publishes the employee newsletter "e-nlightened" each week so staff can keep in touch with what is going on across the district. Email your pictures and a brief description to Communications and we will include them as space permits.
