Birdville Education Foundation awarded funds this spring for 38 innovative teacher grants totaling $100,850. Foundation liaisons went to 29 campuses during staff meetings to share the good news to the more than 60 grant recipients at their respective campuses.
Since the Foundation began the innovative teaching grant program in 2001, they have given more than $1,000,000 to BISD campuses to be used in classrooms across the district.
This year, grants included funding for a variety of subjects. Such as: Science - a microcosm aquaria and a solar car experiment kit; Math - Minds on Math tote bags; Technology - playaways and audio and video recording equipment; Training - writing academy; Reading - Raz-Kids reading program and Literacy Learning in two languages; Special Education - reading bundle and sensory and fine motor tools for learning; English - Handwriting Without Tears curriculum; and Physical Education - Skillastics Fitness and three programs to help high school students with Advanced Placement strategies.
The Birdville Education Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit, tax-exempt organization formed solely for the purpose of generating and distributing resources for the students and teachers of Birdville ISD. The Foundation provides funds for educational programs not covered by the district's normal operating budget. Foundation funds are used to facilitate student achievement and skill development and to recognize and encourage staff excellence.
