Board Approves Revised Salary Supplement
Dear BISD staff,
As I shared with staff last spring, the administration and board of trustees have the immense task of developing a budget that addresses the needs of the district as well as developing a compensation plan that is fair, while staying competitive with our neighboring districts. We have been able to do this despite being one of the lowest funded districts in Tarrant County.
Despite the challenges of uncertain state funding, the board of trustees and administration in May 2012 committed to using a portion of the fund balance (savings account) to provide some much needed assistance on the campus level along with a supplement for all staff returning for the 2012-13 school year.
In May 2012, the board of trustees approved a onetime $450 supplement for every full-time returning staff member and a $225 onetime supplement for every returning part-time staff member.
I am excited to report that in November, the district received a favorable audit report for the 2011-12 school year. Therefore, the Board believes it is appropriate to reward the positive performance of the district by increasing the supplement for returning staff to a total of $1,000 for full time and $500 for part time. This makes the May 2013 supplement payment $775 for full-time employees and $387.50 for part-time employees who are current members of TRS, were employed by the district prior to July 1, 2012, and remain on the district payroll through the May 2013 payday.
The board of trustees and administration appreciate each of you and your service to the children of Birdville. It is because of this, they have committed funds for the above supplement. Thank you for all you do for our students and our community.
Sincerely,
Darrell G. Brown, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools
