Become a Camp Champion!
Attention adults! Become a Camp Champion! Attend our work day at Whispering Pines on Saturday, December 7 to help "winterize" CWP for the winter camping season. We will be doing such work items as attaching tarps and/or Visqueen to the cabins in Oak Ridge and Pine Hollow, installing "Plexiglas" panels in lodges, cleaning up and marking trails, cleaning up canoes/kayaks, etc. Please bring items such as work gloves, lopping shears, cleaning rags, and some garbage bags. You can bring power tools if you are experienced with using them.

Besides earning our NEW "GSLE Camp Champions" hat, our staff will provide a warm lunch for volunteers who attend. We are planning to have door prizes as well. We will have a great time enjoying each other's company while we winterize and make any needed repairs for the camp. Volunteers who plan to help with the workday can spend the night at camp either the night before or after the clean up. That will be on your own and you will need to follow the usual camping rules and procedures to do so. Sign up by Friday by emailing Jill Pollard at jpollard@gsle.org

Nominate that Outstanding Volunteer

Each year Girl Scouts Louisiana East recognizes our outstanding adult volunteers. The recognition process begins with public nominations and letters of endorsement from your peers. Once a nomination is received, it is reviewed by a volunteer committee to assure the candidate has met all criteria for the award.  If all criteria are met, the nominations are forwarded to our Board of Directors for final approval.

Nominations are due to the council by January 15, 2014 for awards to be presented at the April 5, 2014 recognition event. Please review the current award descriptions and updated nomination forms by visiting GSLE Adult Recognition.
Girls, new to Girl Scouting, invited to "Get Moving" at New Orleans Public Library

Girls in grades 4-5 are invited to participate in Girls Get Moving, one of Girl Scouts Louisiana East's most exciting science and technology programs, in partnership with the New Orleans Public Library, being held at the Algiers Regional Library on the fourth Saturday in January and February. During the two-day program, girls conduct science experiments, observe animal energy, and even design the car of the future.

Girls Get Moving will be held on Saturdays, January 25 and February 22, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at 3014 Holiday Drive, Algiers. Girls are expected to attend both days. The program will also be held at the East New Orleans Branch in March/April. Participants at all locations will be invited to a finale party at the Main Library on May 24.

The program fee is $15 per girl, and each girl will receive her own Get Moving book, two days of activities, and a Girl Scout membership, thanks to funding through a grant from Shell. While the program is geared to girls new to the Girl Scout experience, current Girl Scouts can be placed on a waiting list and may attend if space is available. To register, contact Jill Pollard at jpollard@gsle.org or 504-733-8220, ext. 2238.
