Council Shop News   

Saturday council shop hours (the first Saturday of the month) begin in September - Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

STEM Extravaganza

 

If you registered during the Early Bird time period (before June 1, 2013), be sure to register for the free STEM event at UNO on Saturday, September 21. Deadline to register is Aug. 30, 2013. For more information, contact Kevin Shipp at  kshipp@gsle.org or 504-733-8220, ext. 2243. 
Volunteers needed on National Public Lands Day 
September 28 is National Public Lands Day and Chalmette Battleground is in need of volunteers from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. to clean headstones (using Dawn dishwashing liquid) and at Barataria Preserve to pick up litter and dead plant life. The girls will receive a patch provided by the park. Bring a sack lunch, but water is provided. Visit the National Park Service website for details.
  
Save the Date for September 27 Women of Distinction Dinner in Baton Rouge
GSLE Winter 2013 Connections  

Nine women leaders in our community will be honored at the Girl Scouts Louisiana East 2013 Women of Distinction dinner on Friday, September 27, at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center, 201 Lafayette Street, in Baton Rouge. Tickets for the awards dinner are $75 each or $85 for the champagne reception and dinner. The champagne reception is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with dinner from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Event Chair is former Girl Scouts board president and 2012 Woman of Distinction Ann Forte Trappey of Baton Rouge. Sponsors include Valero and Whitney Bank, and additional event sponsorships are available.

New Orleans Alumnae Association Kick Off  

Make New Friends and see the Old! Whether you earned Brownie Badges or achieved the highest awards Girl Scouting has to offer, walked the trails at camp each summer or attended weekly troop meetings you're a Girl Scout Alumna! Join us as we kick Off the New Orleans Girl Scout Alumnae Association at the New Orleans Council office on Thursday, August 22,

at 6:30 p.m. !The Girl Scout Alumnae Association is an opportunity for you to make new Girl Scout memories, network with other women in our sisterhood and give back to the community! We will also be honoring the Alumnae of Troop 100 from Kenner - a Troop founded in 1945!

now available online

 

Program Pathways Program Pathways, our council's annual program guide, is now available online and will be mailed shortly to all registered member households, but in the meantime you can download it to your computer. Take a look at all of the great program opportunities available! The website events calendar is also updated so you and your girls can plan your Girl Scout year!

 Fall Product Program News

Bee Your Best U Is your Service Unit interested in hosting a Fall Product Rally? Girl Scouts Louisiana East, Ashdon Farms, and QSP, have teamed up to offer service units the opportunity to host a Fall Magazine & Nut Rally! The council will provide a rally guide, sample nut and candy products, printed handouts, and rally patches! This year's Fall Product Program is October 4-27, with adult learning sessions, beginning September 14.  The Service Unit Fall Product Program Adult Learning Session is Saturday, September 14, at Ascension Parish Library, in Gonzales. Register now!  For new troop leaders, there are four Nut-e Fall Product Program Adult Learning Sessions from which to choose at council headquarters Sept. 17 or 24, or the regional service center in Baton Rouge, or Sept. 19 or 26.

BSI Comics presents Comic Artist Workshop

 

BSIComics BSI Comics invites Girl Scouts in grades 4 - 12 to come meet professional artists and discover the world of comic art and practice drawing too! The workshop is Saturday, September 7, from 1 - 2:30 p.m. at BSI Comics, 3030 Severn Ave in Metairie. 

 

It's $15 per  participant and the fee includes Comic Artist Badge and take-home artist supplies including art pencils, gum eraser, inking pen, and an art pad presented at end of workshop. Register by August 28, 2013 or when maximum capacity (60) is reached. 

  

While the Comic Artist Workshop is designed based off the Comic Artist Cadette Badge requirements, it's open for all girls ages 9 and older who have a passion for drawing!

Join us for LSU Athletics Girl Scout Events

LSU patch Throughout the LSU Athletic season, Girl Scouts have the chance to earn the official LSU Athletics patch, which is awarded to each girl who attends three out of five events over the 2013-2014 LSU Athletic seasons. Special classification borders are available to those girls who have already earned the patch! These sporting events include Volleyball, Soccer, Women's Basketball, Gymnastics and Softball. Please visit www.lsusports.net for updates regarding these events.

These events are still open, but registration is no longer being accepted through the Girl Scout office, so in order to register, please contact Lauren Taylor directly at ltaylor@lsu.edu or 225-578-6659 for more information. Girls should be dressed in athletic clothing and are welcome to bring knee pads for the clinic. Admission is free to the public to attend the game.

The eBiz online Membership registration site was upgraded this eBiz month, and as part of the upgrade all existing accounts (user names and passwords) were deactivated. All adults will need to create a New Online Account to gain access to the system following the upgrade. You can re-use your older username and password when creating your new online account, if you choose.
