Your Girl Scout Troop Night at the Hive | |
Bring your troop to a New Orleans Hornets game for a night full of basketball, sisterhood, and opportunities to learn about teamwork, commitment and hardwork. Troops and families can get discounted tickets as low as $7, be recognized at the game on the Buzz Vision, and take a group photo on the court with some of the Honeybees. Girls, grades 4 -8, are invited to join Shell and the LSU AgCenter for a day of environmental related exploration, appreciation, and rejuvenation! Girls, grades 4 to 12, are invited to participate in a day of activities and presentations by the NFL Saints Experience, New Orleans Hornets, NCAA Athletics, Thibodaux Playhouse, John Folse Culinary Institute, and many other groups and organizations on Saturday, February 23, at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux.
Gayle Benson, wife of Saints/Hornets owner Tom Benson, will offer the keynote during an event designed to help girls build a strong sense of self esteem. The fee is $10 per girl (no charge for adults), and girls do not have to be working on this Girl Scout journey to participate on Feb. 23. A meal voucher of $8 is also being offered for a full buffet lunch in the campus dining hall if pre-ordered by the February 1 registration deadline. Click here for additional information! |

With new cookie packaging showcasing the five financial literacy skills the Cookie Program teaches girls, and girls participating in Cookies for a Change and Gift of Caring, this year's Girl Scout Cookie Program, running January 18- March 17, will surely do a World of Good! We encourage you to attend the Cookie rally in your area, for fun games, safety tips, and cookie-tasting!

Girl Scouts Louisiana East wants to gain key insights into how you feel Girl Scouting is doing within our 23-parish jurisdiction, and what you believe are the challenges and opportunities the council will face over the next three years.

Clearview Parkway, New Orleans, LA 70121. Names are optional, and will not be shared. Persons completing the survey will be entered in a drawing for a sampler pack of Girl Scout cookies (8 boxes). | Council to hold Town Meetings this winter |
Girl Scout volunteers, parents, and other interested registered members are invited to attend one of the council's Town Hall Meetings being scheduled in each of the council's four regions this winter. The town hall meeting setting provides the council the opportunity to share information on current and future plans and activiites, as well as dialogue with its membership and their needs and interests.
The Region 1 Town Hall meeting will be Tuesday, February 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Regional Service Center, 545 Colonial Drive, Baton Rouge. The Region 4 meeting will be Thursday, February 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at council headquarters, 841 S. Clearview Parkway, Jefferson. Region 2 (Bayou & River Parishes) will meet on Tuesday, March 19, location and time to be announced, and Region 3 (Northshore) will meet on Thursday, March 21, location and time to be announced.

 | Nominations being accepted for 2013 Women of Distinction |
Last fall the council recognized its first class of Women of Distinction at the Centennial Luncheon: our legacy council board/presidents. We will be continuing this elite recognition and will be accepting nominations for the 2013 Women of Distinction from January 15-March 15. If selected, the women will be recognized at a Women of Distinction event on September 27, 2013 in Baton Rouge.

| Catch the Camp Spirit this Summer! |
It's never too early to start planning your summer, and the summer camp information is already up on the website! There are few experiences more impactful in a child's life than a summer camp adventure. Days and nights are full of fantastic activities from rock climbing to swimming to horseback riding to crafting to archery.
Girl Scouts Louisiana East will continue a long-time tradition by offering summer resident camp at its three camp properties, offering a variety of session themes this summer. Campers are encouraged to pick a session that fits their interests and schedule.
Interested in learning more about summer camp? Camp Open House (April 7, 14, and 21) is for parents and girls new to our camps and the overnight camp sessions, to allow you to visit with summer staff and tour the grounds. No reservation is needed. |
| Red Cross MLK Day of Service |
Volunteer at the American Red Cross South Louisiana Region / Louisiana Capital Area Chapter's Fire Prevention Neighborhood Canvassing in honor of the Martin Luther King Day of Service. The Fire Prevention canvassing event will take place on Monday, January 21, from 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the 70805 and 70807 zip codes residential areas of Baton Rouge. (lunch provided at 12:30).
All youth under age 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult, with a one adult to three youth ratio. Registration forms will be sent to those interested in volunteering.
