December 2015

President's Letter

Dear members and friends:
In my final Presidents letter of 2015, I want to share with you the exciting events of this past month.
We ended November with Discover Newport's Holiday Tour hosted by our good friends at Brush Hill/Gray LineTours of Boston and Discover Newport. A special thank you goes out to Chef Concierge, Meredith Reid who spearheaded a fun-filled day for all who attended. We began with a motor coach tour of beautiful Newport. We arrived at the newly renovated Newport Marriott Hotel where we were greeted by Meredith and her team who treated us to a delightful breakfast and a tour of her beautiful property showcasing the restaurant, meeting rooms, lounge, guest rooms and suites. We then met Kathryn Farrington, Vice President of Marketing for Discover Newport, who escorted us around the fabulous Newport Visitors Center where we met and mingled with the Center's staff. We viewed the beautiful Gingerbread Lighthouse and took pictures in front of their elegant tree. As we boarded the bus, our next visit was to the incredible Audrain Automobile Museum and then a short walk over to enjoy a delicious lunch at the famous International Tennis Hall of Fame. We strolled the magnificent Marble House Mansion before riding along the famous Ocean Drive to view the breathtaking homes. We had some free time to pick up some specialty items and holiday gifts at many of the quaint shops throughout the Newport Village before enjoying a reception at the Clarke Cooke House. Host Jeannie Sullivan treated us to a great tour, delicious light bites and festive cocktails to end our day. The ride back home was filled with laughter and cheer for such an exciting and educational day. Thank you to all of members and friends who made this exploration so special.
We began December with a fun-filled holiday concierge party on December 2, hosted by our good friends at Where Magazine and the Cambridgeside Galleria. We had the opportunity to meet and mingle with the marketing teams of both businesses as well as sample delicious food and beverages donated by the folks at the Cheesecake Factory. There was a traditional Yankee Swap with each concierge taking home an incredible gift donated by one of the many stores within the Galleria. What a great way to start the holiday season. Be sure to check out some of the photos from this exciting event.
On December 1st-3rd concierges were treated to Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and on December 8 and 9th all members were invited to see a performance of Once at the Citi Shubert Theater. Again, a special thank you goes out to Joe Donleavy and the folks at the Citi Performing Arts Center for these wonderful opportunities.
The GBCA board and eligible 2016 candidates met with the election committee on December 15th for a ballot opening celebration. I am happy to share that all candidates were unanimously selected by voting members of the GBCA for the New Year. A special welcome to Gabriel Toussaint, Vice President of Membership and Jennifer Stanish, GBCA Secretary. Returning to the GBCA board for 2016 are Gina Guange, Chief Financial Officer; Kristin Beal, Affiliate Representative; Daymeyn Gantt, Vice President of Operations; Evan Martin, Vice President of Public Relations and I will be representing you as President. Thank you again Elizabeth Carey who has accepted the role of Advisor to the President in 2016. I am so excited to be working with you all in 2016. A big thank you to Guy Neil, Mark Miller and Elizabeth Moran for spearheading the election process and making it run so smoothly.
Congratulations to Debra Hegger and all of our GBCA elves for volunteering in this year's Barnes and Noble Gift Wrapping for Charity event on December 13th and 23rd at the Shops at Prudential. Over $1,200.00 was raised for the Ellis Memorial Adult Day Health Program. This worthwhile program gives adults and seniors with disabilities a place to go during the day. They supply transportation, meals, activities and events to folks that would not have a place to go or interact with others. The Ellis Memorial Adult Day Health Program has had a long time affiliation with the GBCA dating back more than 17 years with the late great Jonathan Pride, former Vice President of Public Relations. In Jonathan's memory, we have committed our consistent support to the Ellis Memorial Adult Day Health Program and all its members. See lots of photos from this worthwhile event in this month's newsletter.
As we end 2015, we have so much to be thankful for. The GBCA is strong with over 300 members. Our meetings and events have been fun, exciting and educational. We have given back to the community with our charity projects and we look to do even more in 2016. Our election process shows that our members support our board of directors and the work they do to support our organization.
I want to thank everyone on our team for their dedication, commitment and volunteerism to this association. A special thank you to our member volunteers, the GBCA board of directors, our many hosts and contributors to the GBCA. Without your support. we would never be the respected association we are today.
Thank you again and I look forward to working with you all in 2016.
With Pride in Service;
Betty Salemme
Dear members and friends,

On March 8, 2016, local Les Clefs d'Or concierges will represent you, the city of Boston and New England, at their annual congress in Montreal Canada. This exciting event will play host to hundreds of concierges from around the world.

This congress is designed to provide continued education, abundant networking opportunities, a receptive sales and marketing forum a business trade show and more to those able to attend.

As you may remember from Boston hosting Les Clefs d'Or, USA's congress four years ago, costs are significant. An annual fundraiser called the "Tiger Raffle" helps pay for congress expenses. Local concierge associations play a key role in the success of this raffle. Les Clefs d'Or and Association members work with hospitality partners to create packages which include hotel rooms, dinners/meals, theater/tour tickets, transportation, accommodation, spa treatments and more.

In the past, we have created multiple packages including an eight night New England Sampler package, Make it in Massachusetts package, Best of Boston package and others. Our members have been generous past contributors to this fundraiser. Now more than ever, we hope to have your support.

Please ask your hotels, business partners and friends to contribute to the creation of package(s) from Boston and New England. Help us show our strength and solidarity by showing the Clefs d'Or world that Boston remains a vibrant and wonderful a place to visit. With your support, we'll create packages that'll create a buzz about Boston and beyond.

Please send your donation to me, Betty Salemme, "Boston and Beyond Packages" Seaport Hotel/WTCB, 1 Seaport Lane Boston, MA 02210, by February 15, 2016. Or, contact me directly and I will make arrangements to pick up your donation. Thank you for your continued support.
