President's Letter

Dear members and friends;

This has certainly been a busy spring for our GBCA members. No sooner did we complete an amazingly successful GBCA Hospitality Trade Show, we were thrust into all the excitement of many businesses here in Boston and beyond inviting us to experience firsthand what they have in store for the upcoming season.

A great big thank you to our good friend Janet Young, Manager Group Sales & Reservations for Plimoth Plantation, for the marvelous FAM trip to Plymouth on Tuesday, May 16, 2015. Our members enjoyed the relaxing motor coach transportation provided by Gray Line Tours.

Also thank you to Kate Fox, Executive Director and Stacia Cooper Sales Manager of Destination Salem who showed us what makes Salem so special with their fun-filled Salem FAM trip on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Transportation and tour of Salem made possible by the Salem Trolley.

The "GBCA Clean Up Day" on the Esplanade with our friends at the Anthem Group and the Charles River Bistro was a huge success. Members Krissy Beal, Eisha Beatty     Adam Castiglione, Beverly Doughty, Debra Hegger, Matt Tomkewicz and I all worked diligently to beautify the area around the bistro.  We planted flowers, painted and stained flower boxes... Thank you to all of our volunteers for the amazing job they did. I had no idea we have so many members with green thumbs!! And thank you to the folks at the Anthem Group for allowing us to participate in this worthwhile event. We cannot wait until next year to be involved once again. Be sure to attend one of the many upcoming events at the Charles River Bistro to see the fine work your colleagues have done. The Bistro Opening night celebration takes place this Thursday, May 28th, 2015 (*Rain date: June 5th, 2015) 5:00pm - 7:00pm and the Hospitality Networking Series will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2015 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. And watch for your invitation to the GBCA Family Fun Day on the Charles River Saturday, June 20, 2015. Invitations coming soon!!

Our all member meeting was held on May 6, 2015 at the Boston Public Library. Our members toured the "We are One" exhibit as well as the incredible Map Center, art work and painting by Sargent. What an incredible evening it was thanks to the generosity and participation of Janet Spitz Executive Director and Alison Cody Development & Program Manager who made the evening a huge success. Learn more about our exciting meeting as you read GBCA Secretary Bonnie's minutes and be sure to send your thank you e-mails and letters to our hosts and guest speakers.

For the month of June, we have two all member meeting planned for you. Our February meeting at the EMK Institute had to be postponed because Mother Nature played havoc on us all. That event will take place on June 16, 2015. Thank you Namita Raina

Director of Marketing at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate for helping us reschedule this event and allowing our members the opportunity to visit Boston's newest attraction. Old Town Trolley has generously offered their services and will be shuttling those needing transportation from Boston. Free parking is also available. You should have received your invitation already, so please RSVP today.

Our official June all member meeting will take place at the New England Aquarium on Monday, June 29, 2015. A special thank you to Della Grallert, the New England Aquariums Group Sales Manager  for making this meeting possible. RSVP today for this meeting and event.

Last but not least, concierges remember to RSVP for these two exciting strolls in June. Monday June 1, 2015 will be the South End Stroll hosted by SEBA and the Harvard Stroll takes place on Monday, June 22, 2015. Please note these invitations as well as our invites are meant for the recipient only. Please do not share your invitations with others. Unfortunately, this has been an ongoing issue and is subject to forfeiture of GBCA membership by the offenders. Please always abide by our standards of conduct. Our membership is one of friendship, honesty and cooperation and our members are held in the highest regards. Let's all work together to keep the integrity of the GBCA strong.

With Pride in service, you're President.

Ogawa Coffee Welcomed First International Shop on Milk Street

Legendary Japanese coffee roaster, Ogawa Coffee, opened its doors at 10AM on Friday, May 22nd at 10 Milk Street, offering a specialized coffee selection along with breakfast, lunch and sweets seven days a week.

Founded in 1952 as an independent coffee roasting business in Kyoto, Japan, Ogawa Coffee is currently comprised of 36 independently-owned and operated shops, renowned for exceptional coffee quality, hospitality, and world class baristas. Ogawa Coffee's first international shop is made up of a team of locally hired baristas who underwent an intense training program, led by World Latte Art Champion barista, Haruna Murayama who relocated from Kyoto to Boston to oversee training and menu development.

"Many ask, 'Why Boston?' The answer to that question is both simple and complex," said Ogawa Coffee USA CEO and President Yoshinori Uda. "In addition to sharing many similarities, Boston is also the sister-city of Kyoto, Japan, where Ogawa Coffee is headquartered, making it a perfect city for our first international shop. Moreover, as the world's largest coffee-consuming country, the United States is an important market for us to learn from, as we continue to improve and build a future of exceptional coffee for future generations."

To celebrate Boston and Kyoto's kinship, Ogawa Coffee serves its House Blend Kyoto, currently found exclusively in Kyoto and Boston. The Ogawa Coffee Boston shop menu also includes traditional café fare such as croissants, salads, sandwiches and smoothies; Ogawa Coffee's Signature Drink, a seasonally evolving creation of Ogawa baristas; and Ogawa's famous and Single Origin Trio, a flight of three different single-sources coffee shots served side-by-side for comparison. The Boston shop is openMonday-Friday 7:00AM-7:00PM and Saturday-Sunday from 10:00AM-7:00PM.

Welcome, Ogawa Coffee!
