GBCA Family Fund Day 2014

A special thank you to Bob Schwartz and his incredible team of volunteers who helped to make this year's GBCA Family Fun Day a huge success.

The day began with over 60 members of the GBCA and their families enjoyed a scrumptious buffet breakfast at the Hard Rock Café hosted by Jordan Rosenblatt jordan_rosenblatt@hardrock.com. The food was amazing and the staff impeccable. Members enjoyed looking at the famous memorabilia and listening to great music as they mixed and mingled with other members and their families.

Following breakfast our members and guests were ushered aboard two of Boston's famous Duck Tour Boats. Guests enjoyed an exciting tour of Boston before cruising along the Charles River. Guests were even given the opportunity to take the wheel as we cruised along the Charles quacking at everyone we met.  I think we now have a few future Boston Duck Tour drivers in our membership. Thank you, Bob.

After our fun filled Duck Tour, we were dropped off at the New England Aquarium where we met by our host Della Grallert; dgrallert@neaq.org Della, welcomed our members and their families and escorted us all into the Aquarium for a fun filled tour on our own, the opportunity to enjoy the touch tank and the famous seal show.

Next stop was lunch at Faneuil Market Place. Lunch was generously provide by our good friends, Ed Hurly; ed.hurley@faneuilhallmarketplace.com and Jessica Feroli; Jessica.Feroli@faneuilhallmarketplace.com. Everyone enjoyed strolling the food court and choosing just the right dish from their favorite place to eat. No one left hungry while enjoying pizza, seafood, deserts and more.

Our next stop was the amazing Frost Ice Bars where General Manager Grier Collela Grier@FrosticeBar.com and hosts Catherine  Preusse; Catherine@frosticebar.com and Robert Planer; Robert@frostbar.com treated everyone to a tour of their amazing venue while enjoying refreshing cocktails and taking fun  photographs of the excited location and event. It was so much fun to sip beverages out of glasses made of ice. I wanted to take mine home, but you know how that would have turned out!!

The day concluded with the famous Constitution Cruise, courtesy of Boston Harbor Cruises. What an extensive tour we received while cruising on Boston Harbor. Guests had the opportunity to disembark in Charlestown to view Old Ironsides before cruising back to Long Wharf after such an exciting day. A special thank you to Gina Cameron; gcameron@bostonharborcruises.com and Doug Hall; DHall@bostonharborcruises.com for making the cruise possible for all of our guests.

The GBCA Family Fun Day is the brain child of Bob Schwartz. Bob enlists his friends and the businesses that make up the GBCA membership to share with our members and their families this special day. Again, thank you to Bob and the rest of the team for allowing us this incredible opportunity, memories that will last us a life time.

On behalf of all of us at the GBCA, thank you all so very much.

President's Letter

Dear members and friends:

What a summer we are having here in Boston!  So many activities and events and even the weather has been on our side. Just last night, I strolled the waterfront and every restaurant in the area was full of conventioneers. How lucky we are to be part of this exciting city we call home!

This past month has been a very busy one. On July 14th, 2014 we were all invited to a special event at the incredible Franklin Park Zoo. Nearly 40 members attended, taking part in a one-of-a-kind exclusive tour. A big thank you to our friends Leslie Nagy; lnagy@historictours.com and Cathy Hutchinson; chutchinson@historictours.com of Old Town Trolley/Historic Tours of America for providing transportation to this special evening. Be sure to read our secretary Bonnie's minutes and send along your thank you e-mails and letters to our hosts.

Our members were also treated to the Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, with special guest Rick Springfield concert at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion on July 1, 2014. What better way to spend an evening than with great food, an amazing show and the opportunity to enjoy the famous VIP tent along Boston's waterfront. How fortunate we are to be able to experience these special events and to share what we learn with all of our guests.

Please show your appreciation to Ann Sheehan and the folks at Broadway in Boston for inviting all concierge members to see the amazing performance of Phantom of the Opera at the Boston Opera House. This year's production had even more amazing set designs and incredible costumes than ever before. Members, please remember if you are lucky enough to be invited to any GBCA event or performance, please respond graciously and be sure to keep your reservation. Always send a thank you and never ask for more than what is offered to you.

Thank you also to Joe Donlavey for helping to facilitate these great theater and music events. Send all your e-mail thank you's to Joe and he will be happy to pass them on. Joe's dedication to the GBCA is legendary. jdonlavey@citicenter.org

Bob Schwartz and his amazing team of volunteers hosted an awesome family fun day for our members. Please take the time to read all about it and send your thank you e-mails to our hosts. bschwartz@bostonducktours.com

It looks like August will prove to be as exciting as this month with our all-member meeting at Morton's on August 4, 2014 and also our concierge-only meeting and event at Waterline in the Marriott Long Wharf Hotel on August 12th. This special occasion will play host to discuss many valuable topics: concierge guidelines, all member practices as well as exciting GBCA news. We will have guest speakers on hand to share their expertise with Les Clefs d'Or and how our concierge members may become more involved. There will also be time for a question and answer segment for our members to better share their concierge experience with us all. If you have something special you would like included, please reach out to me. I am happy to add it to our agenda. Please, I strongly urge and encourage all concierges to attend this special event designed just for you!

Until then, I look forward to seeing you all at the Battery Park Patio Party on Tuesday.

With Pride in Service;

Betty Salemme
