The Shop Local Pass

Today's convention guests are looking for a shopping experience they won't find in any other city. That's why three Charles Street retailers have joined forces to introduce the SHOP LOCAL PASS, which offers a 10% discount at four stores: Blackstones of Beacon Hill, noa jewelry, fine handcrafts & gifts, and Beacon Hill Chocolates, all on Charles Street; and Reflections on Newbury Street.

The pass was conceived by noa's Barbara Scofidio, who spent most of her career as an editor covering the meetings and conventions industry. "Some convention visitors might only have a couple of hours to experience Boston, while others might extend their trips just to shop. Either way, they're craving an authentic, local experience-not the same chains they can find at home or the typical tchotchkes from China," she says."They also want to work with stores that can assist them with shipping and understand how to pack items for air travel-not be left on their own to figure it out."

All four stores offer just that: Blackstones and Reflections feature unique New England-style gifts and Boston-themed books, noa focuses on jewelry and gifts created exclusively by local artists, and Beacon Hill Chocolates offers only the finest artisan chocolate.

The new SHOP LOCAL PASS will be distributed to concierges in late January, and replenished as needed. The stores will hold a kickoff wine and cheese reception at noa, 88 Charles Street, on Thursday January 30, from 5:30 to 7:30, with visits to Blackstones and Beacon Hill Chocolates. "By the end of the evening, you'll be convinced that these stores in combination offer the ideal shopping experience for out-of-towners," says Scofidio.

Please RSVP for the reception at 857.233.4912

President's Letter

Dear members and friends,

January 2014 started out with a bang! ... Our GBCA Anniversary Gala held on Sunday, January 5, 2014 was graciously hosted by Towne Stove and Spirits.

The fabulous event was made possible through the hard work and support of the incredibly talented Terrilynn Haak, Director of Sales and the generosity of General Manager Traci Roach. We would also like to thank Banquet Captain Levi Maustellar, for his assistance in making the evening's festivities seamless. Our 24th Annual GBCA Anniversary Gala was such a memorable occasion, one that members will still be talking about for many years to come. Please enjoy the many photos from this incredible night, because the pictures tell the story of a perfect evening shared by so many wonderful friends who support our GBCA family.

Towne Stove and Spirits proved to be an ideal location for what is now the party of the year. From the moment we arrived, we were escorted to the incredibly spacious second floor complete with a full dining room and bar and an incredible private function room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the breathtaking Boylston Street donned with just the right amount of glistening snow. The staff at Towne was extraordinary -- serving a colossal array of incredible appetizers and beverages including a concierge signature drink to the delight and surprise of all members. There were also banquet tables and a bountiful carving station overflowing with incredibly luscious food items Towne Stove and Spirits is known for. The evening was then topped off with an abundance of delicious desserts and coffee making it a night to remember.

We would also like to thank Julie Ingles of Stapleton Floral who courteously donated several festive flower arrangements adding color and a creative flair to the already elegant dining room and banquet tables.

Evan Martin, DJ extraordinaire really rocked the room spinning some amazing dance tunes. It was standing room only when he took the spotlight and showed us some of his many dance moves to an already packed dance floor.

Thank you to David Fox of David Fox Photographers who made everyone look great capturing the stylish setting and sharing his wonderful pictures with our members.

The highlight of our evening was the announcement of the 2014 Board of Directors by our Election Committee: Mark Miller, Guy Neil and Elise Libesking! The Board members accepting their role for 2014 include; Vice President of Public Relations: Evan Martin, Vice President of Membership: Ellen Coppinger, Chief Financial Officer: Gina Guange, Recording Secretary: Bonnie O'Hare and Affiliate Representative: Meg Worth.

I also had the opportunity to thank the 2013 board and shared with our evening's guests what each member brought to the table that made us a better organization in 2013. Jennifer Stanish, Joe Fallon and Bob Schwartz have all bigheartedly offered their assistance to our new board in making the transition flawless. We are all going to miss their charitable contributions over these last two years.

I also wanted to thank our advisor Elizabeth Carey of Attract China for continuing to guide us on the right path with her commitment to the GBCA and serving as Advisor to the board.

I would also love to share with all of you, our members, my appreciation and excitement to be representing you in 2014. I want everyone to know that as President of the Greater Boston Concierge Association representing our members and working with the 2014 Board of Directors continues to be an honor and a privilege that I take very seriously.   As always, I am committed to working now and in the future for the betterment of our organization.

Thank you again for all of your support.

With Pride in Service,

Betty Salemme
