This just in: a new speakers' event at ¡VivaFest! and thanks for the fantastic workshops!
Our mariachi conference was a hit -- now join us to see Rita Moreno and other special guests
Thank you for helping make our mariachi and dance conference a memorable success this summer! This photo illustrates the energy, excitement, and love of the arts that all of our participants brought to the workshops and the stage.
Your efforts and contributions make it possible to preserve the heritage music, dance and art of Mexico . Special gratitude goes to our workshop sponsors: the Board of Trustees of Mexican Heritage Corporation, the City of San José Office of Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts, Southwest Airlines, Union Bank, and the TomKat Charitable Trust, and to all of our donors including the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Packard Foundation.
Community Conversations
We've just added a new event to the speakers series ¡VivaFest! co-presents with the Commonwealth Club of California. It's a conversation with two community leaders who are making a strong impact in areas vital to the health of our Latino community: sustainable energy, food systems and banking.
Join us for a conversation with Kat Taylor and Tom Steyer at 7 p.m. on September 9, at the Mayer Theatre on the campus of Santa Clara University. The event will be moderated by Dr. Gloria Duffy, President of the Commonwealth Club.
You can purchase tickets to the event here.

The incomparable Rita Moreno -- one of the very few performers to win an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony, and a Grammy -- joins us on October 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Mayer Theatre. Moreno will speak in conversation with Jan Yanehiro, director of the School of Multimedia Communications at Academy of Art University; and sign copies of her book Rita Moreno: A Memoir. Go here for details.
We've also scheduled "A Conversation with Paul Williams and Tracey Jackson" for 6:30 p.m. September 26 in Mayer Theatre. Williams, an Oscar- and Grammy-winning songwriter; and Jackson, a successful screenwriter and actor; teamed up to write Gratitude and Trust: Six Affirmations That Will Change Your Life. Details are here. Their book applies the principles of the recovery movement to help countless people who are not addicts but seek help with difficulties such as credit-card debt and anger issues. It's truly inspiring.
I look forward to seeing you there!
Saludos, Marcela
