Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at the ballpark with ¡VivaFest!
Our national pastimes of baseball and mariachi will get lots of play this spring.
Estimados,
What's better than celebrating spring by going to spring training? Celebrating Cinco de Mayo at the ballpark!
¡VivaFest! and MundoFox have teamed up to bring you a great evening of entertainment, heritage and sports -- all in one event! Join us on Monday, May 5, at San José's totally retro-cool Municipal Stadium to watch Los Gigantes de San José play Modesto. While you're there, enjoy traditional Mexican music, dancing and food. We'll also be auctioning specially autographed "Los Gigantes" baseball shirts, and the proceeds will benefit our education programs. Tickets are just $5 for children and seniors and $10 for adults -- and all proceeds from ticket sales also benefit our school programs!
Read on for ticket information and more updates from ¡VivaFest!
To buy tickets:
- First, go to our "Donate" page and type in the dollar amount corresponding to the number of tickets you'd like to buy. For example, if you need tickets for one adult ($10), one senior ($5) and one child ($5), you will donate a total of $20.
- Then, send us an email at info@mhcviva.org and let us know how many tickets you purchased and what kind. We will match it with your donation and you'll be all set!
Or, you can simply email us and we'll take your order personally when you provide your contact information. Many thanks!
Mayoral Candidates' Forum on the Arts
Besides the Cinco de Mayo / baseball mashup on May 5, we've got lots of other great events coming up. On April 23, the Mexican Heritage Corporation will co-chair a San José mayoral candidates' forum on the arts. If you care about the cultural life of our community and support for arts education, or are just curious about what strategies the candidates have in mind to showcase San José as an arts and entertainment destination, don't miss this event:

2014 ¡VivaFest! Mariachi and ballet folklorico workshops
Meanwhile, ¡VivaFest! 2014 is just around the corner with our annual mariachi and ballet folklorico workshops this July! Be sure to enroll your child or family for our 23rd annual mariachi conference, which will be held at Lincoln High School from July 28 through August 1, 2014 in San Jos é for both mariachi and folklorico classes.
Mariachi master class workshops will be led by Grammy-nominated Mariachi Sol de Mexico, and folklorico workshops will be taught by Maestros Jose Tena and Maria Luisa Colmenares.
Workshops will also be taught in Jalisco-style harp by Maestro Bill Faulkner, sound engineering for mariachi performance by Gil Hernandez, and the fundamentals of starting a mariachi conference from production to fundraising by ¡VivaFest! Executive Producer Marcela Davison Aviles. Workshop registration opens April 15 at vivafest.org.
Workshop students have the wonderful opportunity to perform in our annual gala presentation. Check out last year's performance with Mariachi Sol de Mexico, Fernando de la Mora and Symphony Silicon Valley!
Besides supporting our national pastimes of mariachi and baseball, we provide critical music-education programs at several schools in San Jose. This past March we had a blast making a surprise donation of 30 guitars to our middle school mariachi class at Burnett Middle School.
This is the "deep impact" your support generates -- putting tools into the hands of students and creating the motivation to succeed.
Saludos, Marcela
