Giving Tuesday: It's about more than shopping
When Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over, make a lasting donation to community nonprofits
Estimados,
Happy holidays! We're certainly keeping busy, and we know you are, too. Did you brave the malls on Black Friday, or support your favorite mom-and-pop store on Small Business Saturday? Perhaps you skipped the crowds and did your shopping from home via Cyber Monday.
There's one day that's even more important: Giving Tuesday. It's a nonprofit version of Cyber Monday that allows people to spend their dollars on what really counts: their communities. For the second year in a row, thousands of nonprofit organizations across the country, including dozens in the Bay Area, are asking for support today, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
On this Giving Tuesday, we'd be grateful for any donation you can offer to the important educational and cultural missions of ¡VivaFest!
Your generosity supports our annual festival, which brings together the community through heritage music and dance. Did you miss this year's event? Click below to see the terrific slideshow and article by the San José Mercury News.
Another highlight of this year's program: when festival artist Fernando de la Mora, the renowned Mexican tenor, paid a visit to San Jose High School. He led a workshop for promising young mariachi singers -- and even serenaded the cafeteria workers! Click below to read the article.
Your donations also support our mariachi-education programs in local schools. We offer an innovative, research-based music education intervention program for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. It combines the teaching of Mexico's culturally relevant heritage music with a rigorous trans-disciplinary curriculum.
One of our favorite ¡VivaFest! artists, singer and songwriter Lila Downs, has more to say in this video about the importance of music education. Below that is a button you can click for information on how to donate.

Thank you for all your support!
Saludos,
Marcela
