Join Us For the "Date" Concert of the Year! A Celebration of Romance, Romance, Romance...
Estimados, This year ¡VivaFest! is activating downtown San José from Labor Day Weekend to September 28. That's a full month of cultural activities, concerts, films, and free family events to celebrate the heritage, art, music and beauty of our Mexican heritage. And we couldn't be more thrilled to present this year -- for the first time in San José -- the foremost tenor of Mexico, Fernando de la Mora, with the internationally renowned Mariachi Sol de Mexico. They will be joined by the top orchestra in the region, Symphony Silicon Valley, and the lovely Latina soprano Sandra Rubalcava. If you are a fan of opera, mariachi or classical music, you are in for a real treat -- even if your taste runs more to pop, rock or jazz. For the hopeless romantic in all of us, this evening celebrating the romantic songbook of Mexico will be unforgettable. In the succeeding weeks we will bring you a close-up look at all of the artists appearing at our 2013 ¡VivaFest! So now, join us "back stage" with one of the world's most talented tenors, Fernando de la Mora. Maestro de la Mora made his debut in Jalapa with Madama Butterfly in 1986. He has performed in the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, and in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, San Diego, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Vienna State Opera, Opéra Bastille of Paris, Covent Garden of London and many others. He has worked with conductors Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Charles Mackerras, Eduardo Mata, and Richard Bonynge. On September 7 our program will feature the work of an unsung Mexican composer -- a woman of profound talent, whose music has impacted millions -- Maria Grever. Here is Maestro performing her classic "Jurame":
