¡VivaFest! Announces Fall 2013 Schedule!
Mariachi, Opera, Latin Alternative, Traditional Mexican Folk Music, Mariachi and Ballet Folklorico Dance Workshops and more in store this Fall! Estimados, We're delighted to announce the 2013 fall schedule and artists for the 22nd Annual ¡VivaFest! The line-up features GRAMMY-nominated and Latin GRAMMY-nominated artists from Mexico and the United States. - On September 7, 2013, Mexico's foremost tenor, Fernando de la Mora, and traditional icons Mariachi Sol de México will headline a program honoring the romantic songbook of Mexico at the HP Pavilion. ¡VivaFest! also welcomes for the first time Symphony Silicon Valley, conducted by George Daugherty, and Sandra Rubalcava appearing in this very special evening.
- The Mexican quintet Kinky headlines the Latin alternative stage at the San José Civic on September 28 with Carla Morrison, La Santa Cecilia, and Sistema Bomb.
- Mariachi Azteca and Los Lupeños de San José will return to the festival stage for this 22nd anniversary of Silicon Valley's premier Latino destination event.
- Ireland meets Mexico in a very special "musical mash-up" of Irish and Mexican folk music on September 14 at San Pedro Square Market, featuring from Mexico Grupo Mono Blanco, and local community artists. This event is FREE to the public.

- A major highlight will be at San Jose's Discovery Meadow as ¡VivaFest! celebrates a re-enactment on Sunday, September 15, by the Mexican Consul General of "El Grito": the cry for independence that transformed Mexico in 1810. The day begins with a mariachi mass at San José's Basilica at 10 a.m. followed by a day of cultural family activities, music, food -- and El Grito re-enacted in the evening at 8:45 p.m. Scroll down for a detailed festival line-up.

Saludos, Marcela Fall 2013 schedule of events The festival kicks off Labor Day weekend with three days of mariachi and ballet folklorico workshops at The Tech in downtown San José. Mariachi workshops will be led by José Hernandez of Mariachi Sol de México. Workshops in ballet folklorico dance are hosted by Los Lupeños de San José.

September 13: ¡VivaFest! will open an exhibition of the work of José Guadalupe Posada, Mexico's foremost illustrator and lithographer of the Mexican Revolution, at the Mexican Consulate in San José. The exhibition will be open to the public with no admission charge from September 13 through the end of December. September 14: ¡VivaFest! presents Grupo Mono Blanco from Veracruz, Mexico, and local artists Cascabel, O'Craven and the Kavanaugh Brothers Band in a free program of Irish and Mexican folk music in tribute to the famous San Patricio Brigade of the Mexican American War at San Pedro Square Market. September 15: The festival celebrates Mexican Independence Day at Discovery Meadow with a free day of family activities, music, food and fun, culminating at 8:45 p.m. with "El Grito": the ceremonial cry of independence and patriotism by Mexico's Consul General.
September 28: ¡VivaFest! and Nederlander Concerts co-present GRAMMY-nominated and Latin GRAMMY-nominated quintet Kinky, who will headline the Latin alternative stage at the San José Civic with special guests Carla Morrison, La Santa Cecilia, and Sistema Bomb.
