This poem from the Victorian writer, Christina Rossetti, provides the words for one of my favorite Christmas hymns.  The joy of Christmas is that the very love that is God becomes one with us in our world.  This is the mystery of the Incarnation. But as Michael Ramsey [the 100th Archbishop of Canterbury (1901-1988)] noted of Christmas, "So too we are brought face to face with the reality of the world we live in: we are, for example, stirred to remember those in this country who are homeless; it was so last Christmas, it was so the Christmas before that - and now perhaps the reality hits our minds." There is the reality of our faith:  The gift of the God born in Bethlehem is that we ourselves can now take that love into a broken world and incarnate it. Or as Rossetti writes in the last verse of her poem: "Love shall be our token, / Love be yours and love be mine, / Love to God and all men, / Love for plea and gift and sign."
