CPA Update

May 2014

Dear ,

The State Senate acted on the CPA amendment to the state budget this morning, voting to transfer $10 million from the FY14 state budget surplus to the CPA Trust Fund. While the funding is less than the $25 million provided in the House budget, the Coalition is grateful for the continued support for CPA in both branches, and looks forward to advocating for the higher amount during the conference committee process.

Senate Votes on Budget Surplus Funding for CPA

On the first day of budget debate, the State Senate approved an amendment to transfer $10 Million from the FY14 state budget surplus to the CPA Trust Fund. Many Towns Voting on CPA this Spring

It has been an exciting and optimistic spring season for the Community Preservation Act, as 12 communities scheduled a vote on either initial adoption of CPA or an increase in their local CPA surcharge.  Adoption votes were successful at five of the six Town Meetings that considered CPA in the past few weeks, while two more communities will take their turn voting at Town Meeting in June.

Voters were equally enthusiastic at the four communities voting to increase their CPA surcharge, as all four were successful; two at town meeting, and two at the ballot.

FEATURED PROJECT: Concord's Historic Town House

In 2012 the Town of Concord began a two-year, CPA-funded project to restore their historic Town House. The Italianate-style structure, located at 22 Monument Square, was built in 1851 in the midst of a thriving agriculture and urban market economy fueled by the expanse of railroads during that time period.
