It's an exciting time to be involved with CPA, and we have the perfect solution for those that just can't get enough of it. The Community Preservation Coalition has a rare opening on its 15-member Steering Committee. The open slot is reserved for someone who currently serves on a local Community Preservation Committee. A nominating committee has been formed, and we are actively looking for a volunteer to serve.

For many CPA communities, protecting farmland is a popular use of CPA funds under the Open Space category. The Act defines Open Space as including "land to protect existing and future well fields, aquifers and recharge areas, watershed land, agricultural land, grasslands, fields, forest land..."

Text of the New CPA Legislation Now Online

 As you know, many sections of the CPA legislation were amended last summer, so your copy of the law may be out of date. On the Coalition's website, we now have an updated version of the CPA law. At this link you'll be able to choose from a version of the CPA text highlighting the changes that were made, or a "clean" version showing just the new text. If you haven't already, print yourself a copy of the new and improved CPA!

Where are the Important Open Space Parcels in Your Community?

As CPCs make decisions on preserving open space in your community, it may be helpful to know which are the most critical parcels to protect for wildlife habitat.
Massachusetts conservationists now have a powerful new resource for land protection planning: a report on critical lands and species, tailored specifically to each city or town. The Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program has prepared these customized conservation priorities, available here.
