So how many times have you washed your car and you think you caused it to rain?  Well in Steamboat Springs this past weekend all we had to do to make it snow is open a golf course (or two)!  Last Saturday both Haymaker and Rollingstone Golf Courses opened.

However, their openings were short-lived on Sunday from a tremendous amount of wind (gusts over 50 mph at the SS airport), and yes, snow.  However, hackers of all levels can grab their nine-irons and hit the links today, and hopefully, any day they want until late October.  Here's today's view of #11 green at Haymaker.



Ski season was a great success.  According to an article in the Steamboat Pilot, Intrawest, owner/operator of Steamboat, and who also operates Winter Park (CO), stated Colorado as a whole posted a 6.4% increase in skier visits, while Steamboat and Winter Park combined recorded a 10.3% increase.  Click here if you would like to read the entire article.

This success was in part due to Mother Nature, where the Steamboat area received more than our fair share of snow this year.  Below is a picture that was posted in the Steamboat Pilot of Hahn's Peak Ranger District GIS specialist Nick Bencke.  He was standing with a long measuring pole and a shovel in a deep hole in the snow cut with a series of terraces leading down to the bottom.  It was taken April 1 on Buffalo Pass and is a vivid demonstration of just how deep the snow was this spring.  He was 194 inches down.



 
The Price of Admission is Increasing
