Many Things a Buzz Around Steamboat

Boy, are there some wonderful things happening in Steamboat!

This past weekend Steamboat Springs celebrated its 101st Winter Carnival. The town was filled to near capacity and visitors and locals alike flocked downtown to see the Street Events Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday evening's fireworks show was so big that the sponsors (the SS Winter Sports Club) had to get the Federal Aviation Administration's approval to shoot its grand finale, which lit up the Steamboat sky at over 3/4 of a mile high!

Another buzz around town is about our Winter Olympians. There are no fewer than 14 who have Steamboat ties, and the town could not have been more proud than to have our own Todd Lodwick lead the USA into the Sochi games as Team USA's Flag Bearer. This is Todd's 6th Olympics at Nordic Combined.

Another topic of conversation is SNOW...and lots of of it. Steamboat's average ski season total is 349". Thus far we've received 294" and there are two more months to go! The last I've heard is the moisture content at the Buffalo Pass reporting station east of town was at 139% of average.

To give you an idea of just how much snow we've had so far, here's a picture taken of the front of my house. The snow along the driveway is about five feet high and I'm now having a tough time blowing the new stuff over the top with my snow blower.

Hollywood Here I Come?

Another 'buzz' around town is that Home & Garden Television (HGTV) was in Steamboat two weeks ago shooting a story for their new show called "New House, New Life". Each episode highlights a family making a life-changing decision by bucking their current lifestyle, career and home and moving to a totally different location and beginning a new life.

A while back I helped Jim & Leagh Boyne purchase a home in Steamboat Springs. Jim is the new Executive Director for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Before accepting that job Jim and Leagh lived in Chicago where Jim managed a hedge fund. HGTV heard about the Boyne's 'new life and new home' and asked them if they would be interested in starring in one of their episodes.

They accepted. Their move from Chicago, Steamboat home search and eventual move to Steamboat will be featured in the show...and guess who's showing them around Steamboat to help them find their new home? Yep..yours truly. Of course the home search was all staged, for they purchased prior to shooting, but their story is true. The show is scheduled to air on HGTV March 27.

Please keep in mind that have not seen any previews and my guess is that my part will be small (and boring). They were filming here for several days and I know at least Steamboat Springs and the Boyne's will look great! But just in case you are thinking about purchasing in the next few years, you may want to let me know now before I, too, make a life-changing move to Hollywood.
