Those are the anniversaries that will be celebrated this winter with the Steamboat Ski Area (50 years old) and Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival (now in its 100th year).
Throughout this ski season will be numerous special events and activities to commemorate these milestones, including:
January 11 - 21
- The Steamboat Ski area goes all out for its 50th Anniversary
with fireworks, torchlight parade, free concerts and special events culminating the anniversary period with the Bud Light Cowboy Downhill on Jan. 21st. For more information, click here
February 6 - 10 - The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, one of the largest and oldest winter sports clubs in the U.S., hosts the100th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival
in collaboration with the Steamboat Springs Chamber. The Steamboat Winter Carnival is the oldest, continuous winter carnival west of the Mississippi. For several days, the entire town is given over to racing, ski jumping, a parade featuring Steamboat's skiing high school band (the only one in the United States), the famous ski jöring events down Lincoln Avenue, and the spectacular night show featuring the legendary Lighted Man & fireworks display. All we now need is snow. The ski area did open as planned on Thanksgiving Day, mostly due to snowmaking. Storm tracks seem to have been going north, but according to ski area personnel the weather pattern is supposed to change in a week or two. Nonetheless, you may recall the 2007/08 ski season when the ski area had to postpone opening day 10 days, only to record a record breaking winter with over 480 inches of snow by closing day. We can only hope!

Median Purchase Price Increased - $280,000 to $310,000 +++ Up 11%!
Hummm...activity is increasing, supply is decreasing resulting in median prices increasing. And the number of foreclosures are continuing to drop. The Buyer's Market we've enjoyed over the past few years is turning.
