Welcome Rochelle Hazzard and Tearrance Finney

Rochelle & Tearrance with their family, Te'Era (age 10), Saniah (age 8) and Juelle (age 1 1/2), were accepted into our program in June of 2014. Hazzard works at a local family practice in Lewes and Finney works as a cook. "We are a happy, blessed, hard working family and we try to strive for the best," Hazzard said of her family. The family found out about Habitat through a Habitat homeowner and said that, "Buying a house will allow me and my children to be free and have space to do things: something to call home."

Perez Dedication

Get Things Done: Be an AmeriCorps
We have openings for both summer and year-long service.  Do you know someone who would like to serve?  A living allowance, housing, and proximity to the beach all make our program a desirable service placement. Education award funding that can be used for tuition or to pay off school loans is a bonus!

Please help us recruit quality members for this valuable program,  visit  www.AmeriCorps.gov or contact nancy@sussexcountyhabitat.org for additional information.
Far Reaching Influence: Sussex County to Tajikistan!

"Why do people volunteer?" " How do you recruit people?" "How do you manage gifts of time, materials and money?" and again "Why do YOU volunteer?"

These are the questions a film crew from Tajikistan sought to answer during their visit to the United States. These are the questions Sussex County helped to answer on camera, in written reflections, and during interviews with the crew.

Around the world groups, individuals and countries look to local groups like ours to learn how to energize individuals at home to help each other build stable communities. They take best practices home to transform troubled sites into safe and healthy places to live.

Thank you volunteers, AmerCorps and supporters for making Sussex County an example of how volunteers can build community and hope.

Welcome Our Interns

The office has two new interns: Jasmine Booth and Cecia Gaspar. These two young women come to us from our partnership with the YWCA's Summer Intern Teen Empowerment (SITE) program. YWCA's summer program targets rising 9th grade women to help them develop work skills and provide opportunities to work with organizations that provide services to the county.

Our SITE interns, Jasmine and Cecia, will be based at the front desk, learning receptionist skills and how the office is managed. In addition, each will help with events and learn about the advanced planning and onsite work necessary for everyone to have a fun and safe experience.

Inspiration

"Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation."
