Katie's Story:
This year, second grade was a real challenge for Katie.* She has been battling a rare form of cancer and has spent more time in the hospital than in the classroom. Katie's mom came to Community Storehouse for help when she found she could not afford the private tutoring her daughter's teacher suggested was needed to get Katie prepared for the third grade. We spoke with the school counselor and have planned a three pronged approach to setting Katie up for success in the third grade. First, through the school counselor, we found out that the district will work with Katie's treatment schedule so that she can attend summer school in June. Secondly, Katie will attend the Quest Summer Enrichment Program in July to work on her reading skills. Thirdly, we put a call out to all of our teacher volunteers and are working up a tutoring schedule for the summer that will work around Katie's hospital treatments and boost her skills! Please keep this brave young lady in your prayers. We will keep you updated on her progress. *Client's name has been changed to maintain her privacy.
