ADHD Month: Celebrating 34 Years of Progress!

I chose 34 years because I learned about ADHD, or what was then called ADD, in 1981, 34 years ago.

In one of the great "A-HA!" moments of my life, I heard a lecture given by Dr. Elsie Freeman as part of my training in child psychiatry about a condition I'd never heard of: attention deficit disorder. Until that moment, I would have thought the term referred to a child who suffered from not receiving enough attention!
My job is to reach in and
draw out your strengths!
I see ADHD as a trait, not a disorder

ADHD is as a combination of both good and bad.

The good new is, with diagnosis and treatment, you can avoid the negative outcomes.... And not only avoid the negative outcomes, but seize a very positive outcome!

I am conducting a survey based research project on the social and academic effects of ADHD in a high school setting. The purpose of this study is to examine how high school students are effected socially and academically as a result of having ADHD. With the results from this study we can raise awareness to schools, teachers, and families as to what it is really like for to have ADHD in high school and gain insight into some of the difficulties they face every day. -  A.V.
